Adult Social Worker – Learning Disabilities (Hybrid)

Support adults with learning disabilities through safeguarding, capacity assessments and Court of Protection work. Hybrid full-time role with East Sussex County Council in Hastings or Uckfield.

Description

  • Manage complex adult social care caseloads
  • Prioritise Court of Protection deadlines and safeguarding concerns
  • Lead Section 42 safeguarding enquiries under the Care Act 2014
  • Apply the Mental Capacity Act and make Best Interests decisions
  • Contribute to community Deprivation of Liberty assessments and Court of Protection applications under Sections 21A and 16
  • Collaborate with partner agencies, legal teams and health professionals
  • Attend court when required
  • Use transferable legal experience, including work involving Mental Health Tribunals or Magistrates’ Court warrants, where applicable
  • Help adults with learning disabilities live independent and fulfilling lives in their communities

Requirements

  • Hold social work qualifications and registration with the relevant professional regulator
  • Have completed the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment, or an equivalent NQSW year and academic module completed before 2012
  • Understand relevant legal and policy frameworks and remain aware of current case law
  • Demonstrate accountability and sound judgement when anticipating, assessing and managing risk
  • Build effective collaborative partnerships and professional networks
  • Promote appropriate information sharing and draw on expertise from external agencies, service users and carers
  • Work constructively with colleagues and contribute to a positive team and learning environment
  • Meet the travel requirements of the role
  • Pass an Enhanced DBS check or Enhanced check for Regulated Activity
  • Provide an overseas police check if you have lived or worked abroad
  • Be eligible to work in the UK; sponsorship eligibility may be assessed where required
