UX Engineer IV (Onsite)

Applied Materials is seeking a UX Engineer IV to connect UX design, front-end engineering, and full-stack development. The role focuses on design-system adoption and user-centered enterprise applications for semiconductor technology.

Description

  • Turn UX research, interaction designs, and visual specifications into scalable, high-performing front-end experiences
  • Create and maintain reusable UI components that follow design-system and UI-kit standards
  • Support full-stack development by connecting front-end experiences with backend services
  • Improve usability, WCAG accessibility, responsiveness, and application performance
  • Oversee consistent design-system implementation across products and platforms
  • Apply standards for typography, color, spacing, tokens, and component usage
  • Work with UX designers to advance design systems and turn design artifacts into coded components and documentation
  • Define design-to-code processes using Figma Dev Mode, design tokens, and component libraries
  • Lead and mentor UI developers in design thinking and user-centered development
  • Offer UX and technical direction, review designs and code, and create training materials and workshops
  • Connect UX Design, Product Management, and Engineering teams around shared outcomes
  • Promote empathy mapping, journey mapping, iterative prototyping, user interviews, usability testing, and ongoing user validation
  • Develop high-fidelity prototypes and interactive proofs of concept with React, Angular, Vue, or native mobile frameworks
  • Partner with Product Managers, backend engineers, and stakeholders on UX strategy, APIs, architecture, constraints, rationale, and delivery
  • Set standards for front-end quality, testing, maintainability, and inclusive design
  • Assess emerging technologies and advance UX/UI engineering workflows and product quality
  • Increase design-system adoption, reduce UI defects and inconsistencies, shorten design-to-code cycles, and improve usability

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, human-computer interaction, design, or a related field
  • At least eight years of front-end or full-stack development experience with strong UX/UI collaboration
  • Advanced knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and React or comparable frameworks
  • Working knowledge of UX principles including interaction design, usability, and information architecture
  • Experience creating and using design systems, component libraries, and design tokens
  • Ability to turn Figma and similar design-tool outputs into production code
  • Experience working within cross-functional Agile teams
  • Experience leading front-end design and coding across the full stack in enterprise software development is preferred
  • Experience with enterprise-scale applications or complex systems in semiconductor or comparable high-tech industries is preferred
  • Experience building or expanding design systems in large organizations is preferred
  • Knowledge of backend technologies and APIs such as Node.js and Python is preferred
  • Experience with AI-assisted development or design-to-code tools is preferred
  • Ability to work across UX design and UI development
  • Ability to coach, train, and lead UI developers and engineers by example
  • Ability to align UX and engineering work with product and business objectives
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time
