- Develop Tailscale’s product through open-source client code and backend services, focusing on networking features and performance improvements.
- Own work across the product lifecycle, from implementation and product discovery through strategic decisions.
- Partner with UX/UI designers and product managers to define and refine networking features.
- Design, implement, test, and document foundational networking software components.
- Add observability to production services, contribute to incident response, and resolve customer support escalations.
- Evaluate and improve the efficiency, scalability, and reliability of networking systems and resources.
- Use a security-first approach when designing and implementing networking components.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience implementing application-layer networking concepts and distributed components, including proxies, connectors, and overlay routing.
- In-depth understanding of operating-system networking internals, including socket programming, routing tables, and packet-filtering primitives.
- Professional experience developing with Go (Golang).
- Experience designing and maintaining distributed systems.
- Strong grasp of concurrency, including multithreading, race conditions, memory management, and synchronization primitives.
- Understanding of scalability principles.
- Proficiency with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and MySQL.
- Ability to write efficient SQL queries.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
