Senior Structural Engineer, Bridges and Transportation

Lead bridge and transportation structure design for AMT Engineering, an employee-owned engineering firm. Oversee projects, quality assurance, client coordination, and development of engineering staff.

Description

  • Lead technical delivery for bridge and structural engineering projects
  • Plan, direct, and track multidisciplinary projects ranging from mid-sized to large, including technically complex bridge assignments
  • Build client relationships and contribute to marketing, contract, design, and production meetings
  • Lead work sessions for schematic designs, design development, and contract documents
  • Verify that project deliverables and supporting records are complete and meet applicable standards and client and AMT requirements
  • Coordinate staffing and workloads throughout development to deliver documents on schedule
  • Collaborate with the Business/Accounting Manager and Discipline/Managing Director during project reviews
  • Apply quality assurance and quality control procedures and review bridge plans
  • Deliver training and professional development for personnel
  • Mentor and supervise less experienced Project Managers
  • Keep professional engineering registration current
  • Manage assignments and projects while mentoring junior staff and leading teams that design highway and pedestrian bridges, retaining walls, load ratings, and related structures
  • Support structural transportation work for state DOT, county, municipal, and private-sector clients
  • Contribute to interoffice staff-utilization projects in other states

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or eligibility to obtain one through reciprocity within six months of hire
  • At least 10 years of project and client management experience, including substantial project work and established client contacts
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Proven business development and strategic planning abilities
  • Strong communication, leadership, planning, and mentoring capabilities
  • Excellent organization, project management, and written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to conduct hands-on bridge condition inspections and work at heights
  • Preferred familiarity with LEAP Bridge Enterprise, LARSA 4D, LPile, MDX, Descus, AASHTOWare BrR, Merlin DASH, spColumn, PennDOT software packages, Bentley MicroStation, and/or OpenRoads/Bridge software
  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed, including occasional weekly travel
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment
  • Ability to traverse unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment
  • Ability to work in extreme heat, cold, or other inclement weather
