Working with local authorities and partner organizations across 18 countries, IJM addresses slavery, violence against women and children, and police abuse of power. Its teams support the rescue and restoration of survivors, pursue accountability for perpetrators, and help improve public justice systems so protection can endure at scale.

Communications Manager, Global Programs

Shape audience-focused communications for IJM’s global justice programs. Translate evidence, ethical storytelling, and program strategy into clear messaging for campaigns, media, and external audiences.

Description

  • Develop messaging strategies grounded in program evidence, organizational priorities, and IJM’s Brand Platform
  • Lead mass-audience positioning for portfolios addressing forced labor and human trafficking, violence against women and children, online child sexual exploitation, and police abuse of power
  • Maintain key messages, messaging frameworks, and authoritative content for varied audiences, platforms, and applications
  • Ensure communications are accurate, culturally sensitive, survivor-centered, dignified, and aligned with brand and ethical storytelling standards
  • Partner with program, regional, marketing, fundraising, and media teams
  • Manage messaging development from planning through delivery for priority program areas
  • Facilitate working sessions to define communications challenges, prioritize audiences, and align partners
  • Develop content strategies, audience positioning, message architecture, and key messages
  • Create scalable content systems that preserve core program truths and prevent message drift
  • Use audience insights, partner input, and performance data to strengthen messaging and engagement
  • Turn complex program models, evidence, data, and technical terminology into accessible external communications
  • Apply survivor-centered storytelling and principles of dignified messaging
  • Create practical guidance and reusable tools for consistent approved messaging
  • Advise program and communications partners on strategy and editorial decisions
  • Participate in IJM’s community of spiritual formation

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, writing, marketing, journalism, English, nonprofit management, or a related discipline
  • At least seven years of experience in strategic communications, marketing communications, campaign communications, content strategy, brand messaging, or a related field
  • Experience creating messages for mass audiences, major donors, institutional partners, media, and senior leaders
  • Experience collaborating across cultures and functions with program specialists, regional teams, communications partners, and senior leaders
  • Strong strategic communications and message architecture capabilities, including repeatable frameworks, narrative guidance, and reusable content assets
  • Advanced writing, editing, and editorial decision-making skills
  • Current authorization to work in the United States
  • Visa sponsorship is unavailable now and in the future
  • Christian faith as defined by the Apostles’ Creed, plus a statement of faith describing spiritual practices and current fellowship or place of worship
  • Ability to complete background, police clearance, and reference checks
  • Experience developing mass-audience marketing messages for international development settings is strongly preferred
