Waterfront Structural Engineering Intern - Seattle Onsite

Join Moffatt & Nichol as a structural engineering intern supporting waterfront and marine infrastructure projects in Seattle. Apply engineering analysis, design, inspections, calculations, and construction documentation under supervision.

Description

  • Analyze waterfront structures and contribute to related maritime engineering assignments
  • Conduct structural analysis and design for piers, wharves, bulkheads, seawalls, offshore platforms, mooring and berthing dolphins, catwalks, utility supports, drainage structures, retaining walls, towers, and foundations
  • Develop designs using timber, structural steel, reinforced and prestressed concrete, aluminum, and composite materials
  • Contribute to project plans, specifications, calculations, and technical reports
  • Investigate and address design issues through field observations, inspections, detailed design, computation checks, and coordination of design elements
  • Prepare construction quantity estimates
  • Work with architects, engineers, scientists, project managers, and other technical disciplines
  • Inspect structural and construction work in the field and document findings in inspection reports
  • Assist with construction administration tasks, including shop drawing and technical submittal reviews
  • Create basic drawings, models, calculations, datasets, or code for project deliverables under direct supervision

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in structural engineering or civil engineering with a structural emphasis
  • Entering the final year of an eligible bachelor's program after the summer employment period
  • Graduate study toward a master's degree is preferred
  • Completion of engineering materials coursework
  • Completion of structural analysis coursework
  • Completion of at least one materials design course in reinforced concrete or structural steel
  • Working toward an EIT certification, or already holding one as preferred
  • Previous related internship experience is preferred but not required
  • Experience conducting field investigations is preferred
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, SAP2000, LPile, Mathcad, and Bluebeam is preferred
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
  • Successful completion of a post-offer pre-employment background check compliant with NIST 800-171
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States and ability to provide required hiring documentation
