Senior Staff Engineer, Databases

Lead the modernization of The Hartford’s insurance technology infrastructure across cloud, hybrid, and on-premises environments. Drive automation, resilience, security, observability, and AI-enabled infrastructure initiatives.

Description

  • Architect, build, secure, and modernize technology environments that enable reliable, scalable, and efficient enterprise operations
  • Apply expertise in cloud, hybrid, and on-premises infrastructure, automation, infrastructure as code, resilience, observability, and operational excellence
  • Set technical direction, protect design integrity, and deliver operational results for complex infrastructure capabilities
  • Lead cross-functional virtual squads and technical workstreams spanning Infrastructure, Security, and Architecture
  • Shape platform strategy, engineering standards, reusable patterns, and operating practices as a subject matter expert
  • Develop scalable infrastructure platforms, shared services, automation frameworks, observability capabilities, resilience patterns, integrations, and operational controls
  • Guide design decisions for AI-enabled, AIOps, and agentic infrastructure capabilities
  • Modernize infrastructure services, automation, configurations, runbooks, deployment models, and operational workflows
  • Create reusable playbooks, automation patterns, validation methods, and documentation standards
  • Collaborate with engineering, security, architecture, operations, and business teams to align infrastructure services with organizational needs

Requirements

  • 8–10 years of relevant software engineering experience
  • Expertise in one or more of Java, C#/.NET, Python, or JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Comprehensive full-stack experience spanning front-end frameworks, APIs, and back-end services
  • Extensive experience with automated testing, CI/CD, and AIOps practices
  • Advanced knowledge of AWS, Azure, or GCP, containers, and distributed systems
  • Strong command of secure coding, vulnerability remediation, and data protection
  • Demonstrated experience with agentic AI architectures, LLM prompting, and human-AI interaction design
  • Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools
  • Understanding of AI-driven security risks and responsible AI practices
  • Authorization to work in the United States without company sponsorship
