Description

  • Design, build, and scale reliable software systems at Tempus.
  • Develop de-identification systems that transform clinical, molecular, and other identified patient data into research-ready datasets.
  • Design and scale data pipelines and event-driven services that protect privacy while preserving analytical value.
  • Lead projects that contribute to quarterly team objectives.
  • Work effectively through ambiguity and changing project conditions.
  • Partner with leadership to define ambitious, achievable goals and turn them into actionable projects.
  • Support colleagues’ development by accounting for their skills, backgrounds, and working styles.
  • Offer constructive feedback and coaching while addressing issues without assigning blame.
  • Create flexible, reusable, efficient, and maintainable code.
  • Identify and escalate technical dependencies managed by other teams.
  • Deliver resilient, scalable functionality across the technology stack.
  • Raise system quality through thoughtful design, testing, and code reviews.
  • Resolve recurring engineering challenges to improve team velocity.
  • Work across teams to strengthen product quality and reliability.

Requirements

  • Several years of experience contributing to software development teams.
  • Ability to help lead technical analysis and design, assess tradeoffs, and establish engineering best practices.
  • Experience developing software through data-informed, iterative processes.
  • Understanding of distributed systems and event-driven architecture.
  • Experience working in fast-paced agile environments.
  • Ability to troubleshoot blockers, document solutions, and coordinate work across teams.
  • Willingness to learn from and collaborate with a diverse, highly capable team.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers.
  • Bonus: experience with Docker, AWS, and Google Cloud Platform.
  • Bonus: experience with Python, Spark, dbt, SQL, and Airflow.
  • Bonus: experience in biotechnology, genomics, or precision medicine.
