Senior Software Engineer, Cloud/SRE and Full-Stack at TryHackMe — UK Remote

Senior engineer responsible for AWS infrastructure, cloud reliability, and full-stack development at TryHackMe. The role covers TypeScript, databases, security, observability, and cloud cost optimisation.

Description

  • Design and operate AWS infrastructure, software, and tooling across networking, compute, containers, databases, IAM, storage, and security.
  • Develop and maintain production Node.js and TypeScript applications with infrastructure-as-code and automation.
  • Reduce cloud spending while preserving service reliability.
  • Lead reliability engineering, observability, incident response, disaster recovery, and failure testing.
  • Operate and scale production databases, managing performance, capacity, and availability.
  • Help shape the company’s use of Vercel and its evolving application-hosting model.
  • Create developer tools and automation that lower operational overhead.
  • Partner with Content Engineering on virtual-machine infrastructure for hands-on learning experiences.
  • Contribute to security and assurance initiatives, including technical controls and audit remediation.
  • Take ownership of technical challenges from initial discovery through production delivery.
  • Diagnose issues across both application software and infrastructure.
  • Facilitate code and architecture reviews.
  • Mentor engineers and strengthen technical standards across the team.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated software engineering fundamentals and experience delivering and owning production software.
  • Substantial hands-on AWS experience that extends beyond basic service familiarity or certification knowledge.
  • Deep infrastructure experience spanning networking, compute, containers, serverless, IAM, storage, monitoring, and security.
  • Strong production troubleshooting ability and a solid grasp of distributed systems.
  • Professional experience operating and scaling production databases.
  • Proven ability with infrastructure-as-code and operational automation.
  • Sound judgement across reliability, performance, security, cost, and long-term maintainability.
  • Comfort using AI development tools such as Cursor, Codex, or Claude, while critically evaluating their output.
  • Clear communicator who can work effectively in a small, high-ownership team.
  • Availability for substantial overlap with UK business hours.
  • Additional experience with NoSQL or MongoDB, Vercel, Next.js infrastructure, Kubernetes or ECS, observability, high-scale SaaS, disaster recovery, or chaos engineering is beneficial.
