Regional Lead Rail Engineer - Remote, United States

Lead Horrocks’ U.S. railroad engineering practice as a regional rail engineering leader. Oversee project delivery, technical teams, client partnerships, and regional business growth.

Description

  • Provide regional leadership for railroad projects while advancing strategic growth across the assigned territory
  • Direct the planning, design, coordination, and delivery of rail projects spanning industrial track, terminals, spurs, mainlines, yards, and sidings
  • Work with railroad companies on DOT and municipal agency projects involving at-grade crossings, grade-separated structures, and utility crossings
  • Act as a senior technical advisor on rail design, grading, drainage, and related infrastructure
  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with clients, railroad operators, public agencies, and industry stakeholders
  • Contribute to business development through client outreach, proposals, pursuit activities, industry organizations, and conferences
  • Mentor engineers, designers, and junior staff while providing technical direction across offices and project teams
  • Partner with Project Managers and regional leaders on staffing, resource allocation, and operational performance
  • Coordinate with federal, state, and local agencies in multiple states to maintain regulatory and railroad-standard compliance
  • Oversee the application and enforcement of QA/QC practices throughout project development and delivery
  • Help establish consistent rail engineering practices, design methods, and project delivery procedures
  • Travel periodically for client discussions, site visits, regional coordination, and industry events
  • Handle additional responsibilities as required

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in rail, transit, railroad infrastructure, transportation, or land development engineering
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Track record of leading multidisciplinary rail engineering projects and managing client relationships
  • Thorough knowledge of design standards for track, at-grade railroad crossings, grade-separated structures, and utility crossings
  • Experience mentoring technical personnel and directing engineering teams across multiple projects or offices is preferred
  • Familiarity with CAD platforms and commonly used engineering software
  • Strong capabilities in business development, communication, leadership, and organization
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with railroad personnel, clients, agencies, contractors, and internal teams
  • Ability to work independently and contribute positively to a collaborative team environment
  • Willingness to travel regionally as project delivery and client work require
