Principal Creative Director, Store Design at Target – Minneapolis (Onsite)

Lead the creative direction of Target’s retail store environments, from architecture and interiors to fixtures and spatial systems. Shape scalable concepts and guide design execution across new stores, remodels, and enterprise initiatives.

Description

  • Set the creative vision for Target’s interior retail environments
  • Create future-store concepts, department transformations, and scalable design systems for new stores, remodels, and enterprise programs
  • Own interior store design direction and protect creative intent from concept through implementation
  • Collaborate with Architecture, Store Planning, Visual Merchandising, Merchandising, Brand Experience, and other cross-functional teams
  • Provide design leadership through critique, mentorship, and thought leadership
  • Direct complex design initiatives and influence executive leaders and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Translate guest insights, business strategy, and emerging retail trends into innovative design frameworks
  • Apply leading practices and outside perspectives from retail, hospitality, architecture, and experiential design
  • Balance creative ambition with delivery speed, cost considerations, and operational complexity

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Industrial Design, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in retail, interior, environmental, or industrial design
  • A strong portfolio showing the creation of compelling physical environments from initial concept through delivery
  • Proven design judgment and the ability to turn conceptual ideas into scalable, buildable environments
  • Experience operating within or partnering with complex, cross-functional organizations
  • Advanced knowledge of materials, finishes, fixture systems, and environmental detailing and construction
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence and align designers and cross-functional partners behind a shared creative direction
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder-influence skills, including executive-level partnership
  • Ability to work through ambiguity, manage competing priorities, and sustain a clear creative direction in a fast-moving environment
