Power Systems Engineer III - Bolton, Canada

Qualus is hiring a Power Systems Engineer III for onsite work in Bolton, Canada. The role covers electrical studies, engineering design, field testing, and project support for power infrastructure clients.

Description

  • Revise client electrical drawings, including one-lines, wiring diagrams, and schematics, with AutoCAD or Bluebeam PDF markups.
  • Gather field data and conduct arc flash, coordination, and short-circuit studies using SKM, ETAP, and/or EasyPower.
  • Conduct additional studies and services such as load flow, harmonics, grounding, motor starting, buried-cable heat rise, infrared scanning, and LOTO development.
  • Use electrical equipment expertise to identify cost-effective mitigation measures.
  • Create relay protection setpoints and settings files.
  • Design and implement arc flash mitigation solutions.
  • Prepare study reports and explain results and recommendations to customers.
  • Assist with field service assignments involving electrical testing.
  • Support workload planning, resource forecasting, and training schedules.
  • Present study findings to customers and address their questions.
  • Follow company, industry, client, and applicable safety protocols and standards.
  • Evaluate project resource requirements and coordinate assignments with project managers.
  • Develop the capability to manage projects from initiation through completion in accordance with company procedures.
  • Track project expenses and recommend ways to reduce costs.
  • Coordinate project transitions between sales and operations or engineering.
  • Take part in kickoff meetings covering project scope, specifications, budgets, schedules, and safety requirements.
  • Coordinate work across departments.
  • Deliver medium- to large-scale projects with limited supervision.
  • Ensure engineering project invoices and required documentation are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Keep project records and documentation in their designated locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or certification as an Electrical Engineering Technologist.
  • At least three years of power systems engineering experience or directly related electrical experience.
  • Effective communication skills for working with internal teams, clients, and regulatory contacts.
  • Ability to sustain productivity in a changing work environment.
  • Working knowledge of CEC/OESC, Z462, and other applicable codes and standards.
  • Strong computer and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience using at least one power engineering study platform, such as SKM/PTW, ETAP, EasyPower, or an equivalent.
  • Willingness to learn and use client-provided programs and systems.
  • Ability to follow written or verbal instructions and resolve issues involving several concrete variables.
  • Ability to complete electrical power calculations.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, recognize urgent matters, create project plans, order resources and materials, conduct kickoff meetings, and identify scope changes.
  • Ability to analyze information, facts, and data and reach logical conclusions.
  • Ability to work under pressure while handling multiple project assignments at once.
  • Safety-oriented approach to work.
  • Must be able to perform work in the United States and satisfy the role’s international travel and work requirements.
  • Must be available to travel 30% of the time.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to drive and travel by air as needed.
