Mid-Level Ship Structural Engineer – Washington, DC (Onsite)

Design and evaluate structures for U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard vessels at CACI International Inc. Prepare engineering calculations, drawings, compliance reviews, and technical reports.

Description

  • Design equipment foundations and related structures for new and existing ships
  • Complete structural calculations using first-principles methods and finite element analysis software
  • Contribute to the preparation of structural drawings
  • Record engineering methods, assumptions, and results in technical reports
  • Apply regulations, industry standards, and customer requirements to establish compliant designs and analysis pass/fail criteria
  • Review shipyard and design-contract deliverables for specification, statement-of-work, regulatory, and technical compliance
  • Coordinate with customers, vendors, shipyards, and internal project personnel
  • Provide guidance and training to less experienced engineers
  • Support CACI’s Washington, DC office, including customer locations at the Washington Navy Yard and NSWC-Carderock
  • Collaborate with customers including MSC, NSWC, and NAVSEA

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in naval architecture, marine, mechanical, civil, ocean engineering, or a related discipline
  • At least five years of marine-industry experience
  • At least two years of finite element analysis experience
  • Experience reading and producing drawings in AutoCAD
  • Working proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and leadership capabilities
  • Clear spoken and written English communication skills
  • Willingness to travel approximately 10% of the time
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Eligibility to obtain a security clearance
  • Preferred experience with U.S. Navy or U.S. Coast Guard surface-ship design, operations, or maintenance
  • Experience applying U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, and/or commercial ship-design standards
  • Proficiency with 3-D CAD tools such as SolidWorks
  • Experience designing or analyzing aluminum structures
  • Experience with corrosion inspection or prediction
  • Experience conducting metal-fatigue calculations
  • Experience performing mooring analyses
  • Experience with weights and stability calculations
