Lead Windows DevOps Engineer - Pennington, NJ

Lead Windows DevOps operations for Bank of America’s financial services technology, with responsibility for environment management, CI/CD automation, releases, and production support. Guide DevOps engineers while coordinating troubleshooting, compliance, and delivery activities across technology teams.

Description

  • Direct the Windows DevOps team, including employees and onshore and offshore contractors
  • Oversee daily technology operations for Workplace Benefits and Personal Retirements Technology
  • Coordinate project deliverables and status reporting with CIO development teams and delivery managers
  • Partner with Release Management on release deliverables and progress updates
  • Lead daily coordination meetings with onshore and offshore teams covering priorities, issues, deliverables, and status
  • Monitor Jira requests, assign unowned tickets, and close work after completion
  • Manage deployments, middleware, and environments for lower-level testing
  • Keep test environments aligned as closely as possible with production environments
  • Resolve Windows, IIS, .NET, application integration, performance, and software problems
  • Support monthly releases, Mythos patching, and EMRs outside standard hours and on weekends
  • Work with infrastructure, development, and testing teams on releases, upgrades, and server upgrades
  • Investigate incidents and problems through troubleshooting, analysis, research, resolution, and root-cause analysis
  • Assemble subject matter expert teams to determine causes and solutions for escalated issues
  • Monitor environments during releases and independent changes while tracking production modifications
  • Recommend improvements to environment stability and the speed of root-cause resolution
  • Oversee changes, defects, and projects across testing and production environments
  • Triage defects in application testing environments
  • Deploy code and retrofit production code
  • Rebuild servers as needed
  • Collaborate closely with testers and developers
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation
  • Configure complex software delivery automation and verify that deployments satisfy access, ownership, and authentication requirements
  • Provide technical direction, update deployment automation code, and oversee software promotion pipelines
  • Mentor DevOps Engineers, break down complex work, assign tasks, and address escalated issues
  • Contribute to CI/CD strategy, tool adoption, service-platform capabilities, monitoring, alerting, forecasting, and reporting
  • Resolve access-control and software-release-management compliance issues

Requirements

  • At least five years of experience with Windows Server 2019/2022, IIS, and .NET application integration in complex environments
  • Experience supporting stable, high-volume, multitier, distributed transactional applications in production
  • Practical experience with Windows DevOps, system administration, and automation
  • Ability to plan, design, develop, and document solutions using Agile, DevOps, XLR, and Ansible
  • Hands-on experience with application middleware such as .NET, IIS, and JRE
  • Practical PowerShell scripting experience
  • Experience managing environments on Windows servers
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Communications, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Ability to diagnose application integration problems in Windows environments
  • Basic knowledge of multitier applications, networking, and SQL, including troubleshooting experience
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD processes and tools including Ansible, Jira, and XLR
  • Knowledge of Windows PowerShell scripting
  • Experience in the financial industry
  • Strong understanding of software development life cycle concepts
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to manage shifting priorities and multiple tasks or projects
  • Availability for after-hours and weekend work supporting releases, patching, and EMRs
