Infrastructure Engineer Intern - Chicago Hybrid

Join HCSC’s internship program to support IT infrastructure projects in a hybrid Chicago role. Build experience with troubleshooting, cloud and automation tools while developing project recommendations.

Description

  • Support HCSC’s formal internship program and contribute to business objectives and member-focused solutions
  • Partner with cross-functional business and technical teams
  • Contribute to infrastructure projects by analyzing information and supporting solution development
  • Learn and apply organizational processes, programs, and technologies with increasing independence
  • Develop and deliver entry-level IT infrastructure initiatives
  • Review infrastructure playbooks and recommend updates
  • Build an understanding of infrastructure processes
  • Perform basic infrastructure troubleshooting
  • Learn the tools used by Infrastructure teams
  • Manage assigned project components and deliverables with guidance from a mentor and manager
  • Research topics, analyze data and information, and prepare recommendations for business decisions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Support departmental initiatives that improve business outcomes and member and client experience
  • Prepare and present a final internship project, results, and recommendations to department leadership

Requirements

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree as a rising senior in computer science, information technology, or information systems; other majors may be considered
  • Expected graduation between December 2027 and June 2028
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Available to complete the full 10-week program
  • Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States; sponsorship is unavailable
  • Prior technical internship or related work experience is preferred
  • Interest or experience in IT systems, cloud platforms, or automation tools is strongly preferred
  • Interest or experience with operating systems, networks, and IT peripherals is strongly preferred
  • Participation in IT associations, organizations, or relevant technical competitions is preferred
  • Interest in the healthcare payer industry or pursuing an IT career
  • Clear, concise verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Results-focused approach, continuous improvement mindset, and ability to learn unfamiliar concepts
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to prioritize and support multiple projects
  • Practical PC proficiency, particularly with Office 365 and virtual collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams and SharePoint
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, Diversity Principles, Corporate Integrity, and applicable compliance policies
