Entry-Level Civil Engineer – Norfolk, VA (On-Site)

Support civil site design, drainage, utilities, construction documentation, and field data collection in an entry-level engineering role. Moffatt & Nichol works on waterfront and transportation infrastructure projects worldwide.

Description

  • Support design and construction projects by reviewing concepts, architectural drawings, and models
  • Gather and evaluate reports, maps, drawings, aerial imagery, soil tests, terrain information, hydrological data, and related geologic and topographic materials for engineering designs
  • Develop feasibility studies through engineering analysis, environmental impact reviews, and data compilation
  • Produce civil site development plans and reports covering layout, grading, drainage, erosion control, utilities, and related infrastructure
  • Complete engineering calculations and develop cost estimates, drawings, technical specifications, and reports
  • Help prepare construction specifications, plans, schedules, and other engineering documentation
  • Conduct limited field observations to support construction activities and data collection
  • Travel to project locations and complete site visits when needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering is required
  • Engineer in Training certification is preferred
  • Civil engineering experience of 0 to 2 years
  • Related internship experience is required for entry-level applicants
  • Experience with site layout, stormwater, erosion control, utilities, and related infrastructure systems is preferred
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  • MicroStation experience and stormwater modeling experience with WaterCAD or SWMM are desirable
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
  • Willingness and ability to travel
  • Selected candidates must provide post-offer proof of U.S. citizenship
  • Successful completion of a comprehensive post-offer background check, which may include credit and criminal history reviews
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment, post-offer background check conducted in accordance with NIST 800-171
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States and ability to provide required hiring documentation
  • Ability to move across unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment during certain site visits
