Distribution Zone Engineer II/III

Maintain Duke Energy’s Cyme distribution models, assess future capacity needs and advance grid projects. This hybrid role is based in Salisbury, North Carolina.

Description

  • Provide engineering guidance to identify, analyze, and resolve routine problems.
  • Plan, organize, estimate, schedule, and monitor work activities in support of business goals.
  • Prepare technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches.
  • Carry out basic engineering studies.
  • Build positive working relationships and coordinate work activities.
  • Keep records and files accurate and up to date.
  • Maintain the distribution system model in Cyme.
  • Conduct multi-year distribution studies to identify future capacity needs.
  • Initiate and sponsor distribution and transmission capital projects.
  • Prepare annual reports on winter and summer peak load conditions.
  • Provide technical support to internal teams.
  • Assess how significant new loads affect the system.
  • Recommend and define distribution reliability and grid improvement programs.
  • Advance company goals and represent Duke Energy professionally.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • A master’s degree in engineering may substitute for the bachelor’s degree.
  • At least 2 years of engineering experience for Engineer II.
  • Electrical or computer engineering degree preferred.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred.
  • 2–4 years of utility experience preferred.
  • Power distribution experience preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively in challenging situations and under time pressure.
  • Ability to understand and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Experience with power system engineering applications, including load-flow analysis.
  • Education focused on electric energy systems principles, or equivalent experience in power system operations, planning, or protection.
  • Understanding of fundamental engineering theories and principles.
  • Understanding of engineering research and design practices, evaluating alternatives, making recommendations, and presenting them.
  • Understanding of basic project management principles.
  • Utility industry experience preferred.
  • Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam preferred.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future.
  • Must live within a reasonable commute of the designated Duke Energy facility.
  • Must meet all basic and required qualifications.
