Data Analyst, Payments at Mercuryo (Remote in Cyprus)

Own payment data, transaction cost models, and partner reconciliations at Mercuryo. Support its Web3 and traditional finance platform through SQL, dbt, Python, and business intelligence dashboards.

Description

  • Manage Mercuryo’s payments data lifecycle, from product logging through final reporting dashboards
  • Partner with Operations, Finance, Partnerships, and Data Engineering to convert business questions into dependable datasets
  • Develop transaction cost models spanning acquiring, scheme, foreign exchange, KYC, fraud, chargebacks, blockchain, and custody
  • Work with engineers and product managers during launches to ensure products capture the necessary data
  • Establish revenue and cost recognition logic while delivering data marts and dashboards
  • Create and maintain dashboards in Metabase, Tableau, or equivalent tools
  • Implement data-quality tests and alerts with dbt and Airflow, with notifications sent through Slack and Jira
  • Identify and address data gaps across internal systems, blockchains, custody platforms, and exchanges
  • Calibrate alerts so they remain actionable and avoid excessive noise
  • Allocate acquiring, interchange, scheme, foreign exchange, KYC, transaction-monitoring, fraud-screening, chargeback, blockchain, and custody costs to individual transactions
  • Reconcile partner invoices and settlement reports with internal records each month
  • Investigate discrepancy root causes, quantify their impact, and support recovery efforts
  • Automate recurring reconciliation controls that are currently manual
  • Establish fee and cost rules for new acquirers, payment methods, and products
  • Define data mappings for implementation by Data Engineering
  • Check data accuracy before it enters reporting systems

Requirements

  • At least five years of experience in data analytics or analytics engineering, ideally within payments, fintech, e-money, or crypto
  • Advanced SQL skills for large transactional datasets, including window functions, deduplication, incremental processing, and performance optimization
  • Ability to understand and safely refactor another person’s 1,000-line data model
  • Practical dbt or comparable experience and familiarity with Git workflows, pull requests, and code review
  • Working knowledge of Airflow
  • Strong understanding of card-payment economics, including acquiring, interchange and scheme fees (IC++), settlement, chargebacks, 3DS, and declines
  • Familiarity with alternative payment methods
  • Experience reconciling settlement or invoice files with internal ledgers and explaining discrepancies to the cent
  • Practical Python experience
  • Experience using BI platforms such as Metabase, Tableau, or similar
  • Ability to communicate clearly with non-technical stakeholders
  • Fluent professional English, both written and spoken
  • Preferred: understanding of crypto infrastructure, including on-chain transactions, custody platforms, exchange APIs, and network fees
  • Preferred: experience with KYC/AML and fraud-prevention vendors and their pricing models
  • Preferred: familiarity with ClickHouse, StarRocks, or another massively parallel processing database
  • Preferred: experience creating P&L or unit-economics models with Finance
