Cross-Domain Infrastructure Engineer Apprentice - Canberra Onsite

Support BAE Systems Digital Intelligence’s cross-domain defence technology as an infrastructure engineering apprentice in Canberra. Help build and maintain servers, networks, storage, virtualisation platforms, and customer environments.

Description

  • Perform approved operational procedures under guidance and in line with documented methods.
  • Support maintenance, installation, and fault-resolution activities.
  • Help build and rebuild virtual and physical infrastructure, networks, and storage in laboratory and customer environments.
  • Produce, update, and maintain precise technical documentation.
  • Support routine IT platform maintenance to promote secure and efficient operation.
  • Contribute to small-scale project builds and implementations, including testing and transition work.
  • Maintain accurate records of time, progress, and completed outcomes.
  • Support the planning and delivery of maintenance and installation activities.
  • Follow customer-site support and maintenance procedures while accompanied or supervised.
  • Investigate operational issues and incidents, escalating matters beyond current experience.
  • Apply relevant security procedures and understand service-level agreement requirements.
  • Complete the agreed formal study programme within the required timeframe.
  • Build Agile and DevOps knowledge through participation in team ceremonies.
  • Develop familiarity with software used by Cross Domain products, including Java-based components.
  • Share knowledge and learning with fellow apprentices and colleagues.
  • Recommend improvements to processes, templates, and technical documentation.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated interest in computing, networking, and system integration through home lab work, personal projects, coursework, or previous study.
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Consistent accuracy and close attention to detail.
  • Willingness to follow prescribed procedures precisely when required.
  • Structured and methodical approach to troubleshooting.
  • Dependable, punctual, and reliable work habits.
  • Ability to organise personal workloads with appropriate support.
  • Willingness to ask questions, accept guidance, and act on direction.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and maintain professional conduct at customer sites.
  • Appreciation of the discretion required when handling sensitive information.
  • Year 12 or equivalent with satisfactory mathematics or technical-subject results; or
  • Certificate III or IV in Information Technology or a related discipline; or
  • Partially completed degree in Computer Science, Computer Systems Engineering, or a related field; or
  • Practical technical capability gained through independent study or previous employment.
  • Exposure to Linux or Windows server administration, VMware or comparable virtualisation, TCP/IP networking, firewalls, Bash, PowerShell, or Python is advantageous but not essential.
  • The role may be subject to security and export-control restrictions related to nationality, former nationalities, and place of birth.
