LexisNexis seeks an Associate Legal News Copy Editor to edit and write coverage of U.S. court cases, proceedings, legislation, and related legal developments. The role focuses on accurate, neutral, publication-ready legal news.

  • Edit legal news copy for clarity, accuracy, readability, and style
  • Check legal terminology and procedural details for accuracy
  • Confirm factual information before publication
  • Review headlines, leads, and article copy
  • Apply house style consistently across content
  • Verify legal citations and case information
  • Prevent substantive errors through careful editing
  • Flag gaps, unclear points, and ambiguities
  • Maintain a neutral tone appropriate for legal news
  • Complete final reviews to publication standards
  • Manage work in a deadline-driven news operation and meet required deadlines
  • Help maintain consistent editorial standards across the service
  • Research and write articles explaining court opinions and other litigation-related documents as needed
  • Monitor assigned legal-news developments and report on them as needed

Requirements

  • Bring experience copyediting hard news and strong news judgment
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in journalism or communications, or have relevant work experience
  • Manage multiple tasks and reprioritize work throughout the day
  • Understand and explain complex legal subjects
  • Demonstrate strong, efficient copyediting and news-writing skills
  • Be available to work Eastern Time Zone hours
  • Work effectively and independently
