Senior Software Safety Engineer, Autonomous Vehicles

Develop safety-critical autonomous ground vehicle systems for Forterra’s defense applications. Lead hazard analyses, shape safety architecture, and support software assurance.

Opis

  • Contribute to prototype development and architectural design for safety-critical, ground-based autonomous systems
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative hazard identification, evaluation, and control analyses under the Software System Safety Program Plan and Software Development Plan
  • Integrate safety considerations into software development for autonomous defense vehicles in accordance with MIL-STD-882E
  • Work across functional safety, AI and machine learning, embedded systems, and software development in complex system environments
  • Define software architecture and safety concepts, deriving requirements from safety analyses
  • Apply model-based safety approaches across Forterra’s software ecosystem
  • Conduct hazard analyses in a model-based safety environment
  • Perform Software FHA, FMEA, FMECA, FTA, Modes/States/Transitions Hazard Analysis, and robotic behavior and capability assessments
  • Communicate software safety design considerations and progress across the engineering organization
  • Develop and refine safety concepts, including architecture, safety mechanisms, and Level of Rigor verification activities
  • Work with cross-functional teams to develop test cases for safety-critical software
  • Track industry trends and advances in software safety
  • Take part in trade studies and testing to verify software requirements
  • Participate in Systems Engineering Technical Reviews, including SRR, PDR, and CDR
  • Participate in Software System Safety Technical Review Panels, working groups, and Level of Rigor audits
  • Carry out other duties as assigned

Zahteve

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, software, systems, or related engineering; computer science; or another related technical field. A master’s degree is preferred.
  • 5–10+ years of experience as a Software Safety Engineer, System Safety Engineer, or in a related role focused on autonomous or safety-critical systems
  • Experience with MIL-STD-882E, JSSSEH, AOP-52, or related software safety standards such as DO-178C or ISO 26262
  • Experience with software development processes such as ASPICE and coding standards such as MISRA
  • Experience managing requirements with Jama, DOORS, or Polarion
  • Experience using JIRA for issue tracking
  • Familiarity with autonomous vehicle perception, prediction, path planning, and control
  • Strong analytical skills in linear algebra, geometry, and probability
  • Experience analyzing C/C++ software or using software-based tools such as SCADE or Simulink
  • Experience with complex environments involving RTOS, complex microprocessors, and hypervisors
  • Experience supporting and guiding teams through unit testing, software integration testing, and embedded software testing
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain complex engineering issues to a diverse team
  • Software or safety certifications such as ASPICE or equivalent are preferred
  • Experience with robotics, AI, and/or machine learning is preferred
  • Direct experience designing and developing safety-critical software, autonomous vehicles, or advanced ADAS applications is preferred
  • The position may require eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance
