Senior Software Engineer, Kotlin/Java — Hybrid in Wyoming, Michigan

Gordon Food Service is seeking a senior software engineer to build Kotlin and Java applications, conversational systems, and AI-enabled engineering workflows. The role combines cloud development, technical leadership, testing, and mentoring.

Descriere

  • Build, create, and enhance general-purpose or specialized software applications
  • Translate user needs into practical software solutions
  • Design or tailor software to improve operational efficiency
  • Lead projects from a technical perspective
  • Embed AI-assisted engineering practices, agentic AI, and conversational interfaces into architecture and daily operations
  • Write programs and scripts that meet specifications and coding standards
  • Create and deliver conversational and agentic software solutions
  • Promote the use of AI development tools, skills, CLIs, and MCP servers across the engineering team
  • Investigate emerging technologies and assess their business value
  • Train and develop engineering teams in the use of emerging technologies
  • Review and test solutions to confirm accuracy and effective implementation
  • Assess business systems and define project scope and effort estimates
  • Conduct integrated system testing for accuracy, reliability, and performance
  • Build software components and verify their completeness and quality
  • Coordinate development activities and contribute to code reviews
  • Define and uphold coding standards
  • Coach Associate and Intermediate software engineers
  • Diagnose and fix program, script, and system failures
  • Lead formal code review sessions
  • Maintain and support software systems while analyzing requirements
  • Support the design of graphical user interfaces and software components
  • Join the on-call support rotation when required
  • Handle other assigned duties and responsibilities

Cerințe

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related discipline is preferred
  • At least five years of relevant software development experience is required
  • Strong Kotlin or Java skills with object-oriented backend frameworks that use dependency injection, including Spring Boot
  • Working knowledge of REST APIs, Git workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing
  • Practical experience or fluency with AI-assisted engineering workflows, including custom skills, CLIs, or MCP servers, is strongly preferred
  • Python experience for scripting or AI and agentic development is preferred
  • Experience with cloud and containerized development using GCP, Kubernetes, and Docker or Podman is preferred
  • Experience with Dialogflow CX, Actions on Google, or conversational and voice AI platforms is preferred
  • Experience developing and deploying Model Context Protocol servers is preferred
  • Frontend experience with TypeScript, Angular, or React is preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently or collaboratively
  • Ability to devise innovative solutions to complex problems in line with organizational objectives
  • Gordon Food Service customers selected for interviews must provide a management support letter
  • Successful candidates must complete a pre-employment drug test
