Senior Symfony Engineer (PHP) – Remote in India

Lead backend development for Smart Working’s enterprise marketing-data platform using PHP and Symfony. Modernize the Symfony stack, strengthen scalability, and collaborate across Angular, TypeScript, and AI services in a remote role.

Apraksts

  • Own backend delivery for the core Symfony application
  • Become capable of delivering work independently within 2–3 months of joining
  • Evaluate code produced by both team members and AI tools
  • Help upgrade the application from Symfony 6.1 to Symfony 7
  • Address versioning, compatibility, and legacy-system challenges
  • Enhance application performance, scalability, and long-term maintainability
  • Contribute across Angular, TypeScript, and Python-based AI agent services
  • Coordinate with DevOps when backend changes influence other system areas
  • Read and understand Angular and TypeScript code while focusing primarily on backend work
  • Evaluate the broader effects of technical decisions across Symfony, Angular, and AI services
  • Trace issues to their root causes and refine existing solutions
  • Build maintainable features within a legacy codebase
  • Work independently while partnering with a remote, cross-functional team
  • Comply with SOC 2, PII, and security requirements

Prasības

  • At least 8 years of commercial software engineering experience, including 5 or more years with PHP
  • At least 7 years of expert-level PHP development experience
  • At least 3 recent years of advanced commercial experience with Symfony 6.x or 7
  • Strong senior-level Laravel experience may qualify when directly transferable
  • At least 4 years of advanced backend architecture, system design, and scalability experience
  • At least 2 years of advanced experience critically using AI development tools
  • At least 5 years of advanced MySQL experience, including schema design and query optimization
  • Comparable PostgreSQL or other relational-database experience may be accepted
  • At least 1 year of Angular, TypeScript, or equivalent front-end experience
  • At least 3 years of advanced automated-testing experience with PHPUnit
  • At least 1 year of experience upgrading frameworks and modernizing legacy codebases
  • At least 2 years of intermediate AWS experience
  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • Availability to work UK hours
  • Willingness to complete strict background checks
  • Ability to comply with PII and data-protection requirements
  • Ability to work independently after 2–3 months, with a hands-on engineering approach and architectural mindset
