Staff Geospatial Data Scientist (Hybrid, London)
Lead the development of geospatial datasets, models, and production data products supporting Relay’s delivery network. Improve operational reliability through stronger data quality, observability, and measurable data practices.
Description
- Own the location and movement datasets that support Relay’s delivery operations.
- Establish geospatial data-quality measures, assess gaps and operational impact, and prioritize improvements.
- Continuously improve location datasets.
- Set the technical strategy and roadmap for geospatial data solutions.
- Work with Engineering to productionize solutions and integrate them into delivery operations.
- Add pipeline observability to detect, investigate, and address data-quality degradation.
- Develop reusable data products and establish core business metrics.
- Coach data scientists on technical methods, production standards, and problem decomposition.
- Collaborate across Engineering, Operational Research, and Data Science.
Requirements
- Extensive experience working with geospatial data, telemetry, or GPS traces.
- Strong technical fundamentals.
- Experience taking a production data product from conception through operation.
- Working knowledge of observability, testing, and incident response as essential responsibilities.
- A genuine interest in maps and urban geography.
- Ability to define problems precisely and measure outcomes rigorously.
- Comfort handling complex problems with significant operational impact.
