SQL Database Administrator (DBA) - Remote, United States

Mid-level SQL DBA responsible for Microsoft SQL Server and SQL Cluster environments supporting a federal customer. The role covers performance tuning, backups, security, troubleshooting, high availability, and disaster recovery.

Description

  • Manage and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases and database servers
  • Support standalone SQL Server and SQL Cluster environments
  • Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and maintain SQL Server platforms
  • Build and configure databases to meet application and business needs
  • Track database availability, capacity, performance, and overall health
  • Use Idera and SolarWinds to monitor database environments and detect issues proactively
  • Tune SQL performance and optimize indexes and queries
  • Run and verify database backups and restores
  • Implement and test high-availability and disaster-recovery procedures
  • Diagnose database, server, and application integration problems
  • Create SQL scripts and automation for recurring administration tasks
  • Support database security, encryption, auditing, and operational compliance requirements
  • Manage incidents, service requests, and RFCs in ServiceNow
  • Assist with database maintenance and change-management procedures
  • Work with senior DBAs, developers, infrastructure teams, and other technical staff
  • Keep technical and operational documentation current
  • Help prepare weekly support activity and accomplishment reports
  • Take part in scheduled after-hours maintenance, patching, and server support when required

Requirements

  • At least four years of experience in database administration
  • Practical experience administering Microsoft SQL Server
  • Experience with several of the following: Microsoft SQL Server, SQL Server clustering, SQL scripting, backup and restore, database patching, performance tuning, monitoring and alerting, high availability, disaster recovery, database security, scripting and automation, and incident troubleshooting
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Capacity to work independently and within cross-functional teams
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Microsoft or SQL professional certification preferred
  • Federal government IT experience preferred
  • Experience administering cloud databases preferred
  • ServiceNow experience preferred
  • Experience with Idera and/or SolarWinds preferred
  • Experience with or familiarity with PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, Oracle, and MS Access preferred
