Build secure, maintainable software for Oxford Quantum Circuits’ commercial quantum computers. Own projects from design and testing through deployment, evaluation, and production support.

Description

  • Build dependable, secure, maintainable software for the production and operation of Oxford Quantum Circuits’ quantum computers.
  • Lead software projects through requirements gathering, solution design, prototyping, testing, deployment, and evaluation.
  • Create systems and technical approaches while weighing performance, security, maintainability, complexity, cost, and resource constraints.
  • Develop reliable software that satisfies functional and non-functional requirements, supported by clear user and developer documentation.
  • Investigate and resolve problems in development and production environments.
  • Review and thoroughly test code, contribute to pair programming, and assess readiness for production.
  • Automate quality assurance and documentation workflows, including the development and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines.
  • Evaluate technical alternatives, explain recommendations, and work closely with engineers and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to both new greenfield projects and established codebases.
  • Share technical expertise through mentoring, training, and internal knowledge-sharing events.
  • Help less-experienced engineers grow through practical support, mentoring, and constructive feedback.
  • Represent Oxford Quantum Circuits at conferences, collaborative programmes, or through publications when appropriate.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience delivering several software projects across the complete development lifecycle.
  • Experience working effectively with both greenfield and brownfield codebases.
  • Practical experience diagnosing and fixing issues in development and production environments.
  • Experience maintaining software spanning multiple system tiers.
  • Strong Python skills, including familiarity with widely used Python libraries.
  • Solid knowledge of software data structures, programming techniques, and fundamental computer-science concepts.
  • Understanding of object-oriented analysis and design, code organisation, algorithms, operating systems, networking, HTTP, and data management.
  • Ability to design complex systems from initial requirements through production deployment.
  • Ability to understand and communicate codebase architecture clearly.
  • Experience applying functional-programming techniques.
  • Knowledge of containerisation with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines that support quality assurance and fast releases.
  • Ability to coach colleagues on complex technical subjects and help improve engineering performance.
  • Graduate-level education, or equivalent professional experience, in computer science and a numerical discipline.
  • Flexible, detail-oriented, quality-focused approach with strong communication, time-management, problem-solving, and innovation skills.
  • Desirable: Experience delivering software products ready for end users.
  • Desirable: Familiarity with message brokers or data-streaming technologies.
  • Desirable: Experience with relational and non-relational databases.
  • Desirable: Experience contributing beyond a core software specialism, such as testing, product ownership, or platform engineering.
  • Desirable: Experience developing containerised microservices for global deployment.
  • Desirable: Familiarity with Azure or AWS.
  • Desirable: Experience developing web applications in the Python ecosystem.
  • Desirable: Experience designing or building user interfaces.
  • Desirable: Working knowledge of JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML and CSS, plus React, Angular, or Node.js.
  • Desirable: A degree in computer science or a related subject.
  • Desirable: Leadership or monitoring experience in a software-engineering environment.
