Senior Software Engineering Manager, Tax Document Processing (Remote - United States)

Lead Taxwell’s tax-document import platform team as a Software Engineering Manager. Guide C#/.NET and AWS services supporting document ingestion, OCR, extraction, and production reliability.

Description

  • Lead, mentor, and develop software engineers across hiring, onboarding, performance, professional development, and career progression.
  • Own delivery through planning, prioritization, assignments, resource management, Product commitments, and production execution.
  • Accelerate onboarding and engineering productivity through well-scoped initial work, review and pairing support, gradual production-debugging exposure, and ramp tracking.
  • Set technical direction for document-processing pipelines spanning ingestion, OCR, classification, extraction, state management, and delivery.
  • Balance delivery speed with security, compliance, and reliability obligations.
  • Operate and improve CI/CD, release processes, automated testing, observability, incident response, and blameless post-incident learning.
  • Guide the use of AI-assisted and agentic engineering tools with expectations for correctness, security, and maintainability.
  • Partner with platform and security teams on infrastructure, hardening, and compliance initiatives.
  • Diagnose complex cross-service production problems involving application code, queues, object storage, state records, configuration, logs, and external dependencies.
  • Keep Product and business stakeholders informed about tradeoffs, risks, estimates, delivery progress, and operational health.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • About 8+ years of professional software development experience.
  • At least 2 years of leading or managing software engineers who delivered production software.
  • Strong hands-on experience with C#/.NET and backend product engineering, including APIs, asynchronous and event-driven processing, and cloud-service integration.
  • Working knowledge of cloud-native architecture, preferably AWS serverless services such as Lambda, SQS, S3, and DynamoDB; comparable Azure experience may substitute.
  • Experience owning or sharing production support for business-critical services.
  • A record of hiring, onboarding, and quickly ramping engineers.
  • Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience managing teams that built document processing, OCR, classification, extraction, data-ingestion, or other event-driven data-pipeline systems.
  • Experience in tax, financial services, accounting, payments, or another regulated field handling sensitive customer data.
  • Experience managing blended employee and contractor teams across distributed or nearshore locations.
  • Experience with Kubernetes deployments, observability tools, and structured logging and metrics practices.
  • Hands-on experience establishing governance for AI-assisted engineering tools.
