Senior Software Engineer, Data Platform — Remote

Build and operate distributed data infrastructure for Human Interest’s retirement fintech platform. Lead scalable pipelines, AWS services, data security, and AI-ready platform development.

Description

  • Design and operate distributed data-platform services and AWS ECS infrastructure, including container orchestration, autoscaling, sizing, and workload management.
  • Develop scalable data pipelines and data-movement services spanning ingestion, orchestration, transformation, and delivery.
  • Improve event-sourced data flows between production systems, data infrastructure, and downstream services.
  • Join the data-platform on-call rotation and resolve production issues across distributed data systems.
  • Protect participant and employer data with PII classification and masking, role-based access, least privilege, encryption, key management, lineage, and audit trails that support SOC 2 and regulatory requirements.
  • Set the technical direction for an AI-first data platform, covering AI consumption, unstructured data access, AI tooling, and production AI and model workloads.
  • Create interfaces for data engineers, analysts, and AI systems, including pathways that deliver curated warehouse data to production services and downstream tools.
  • Mentor engineers and analysts while strengthening testing, code review, and operational-readiness practices.

Requirements

  • At least five years of experience building and operating production software, including substantial work with data pipelines, streaming platforms, or data infrastructure.
  • Experience designing distributed systems and services, with an understanding of concurrency, backpressure, idempotency, partial failure, and related tradeoffs.
  • Production experience running containerized AWS workloads, including scaling, resource sizing, and performance and cost optimization under real-world load.
  • Ability to independently take ownership of complex production systems and drive their improvement.
  • Experience with automated testing, code review, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code, such as Terraform.
  • Experience operating workflow orchestration at scale with Airflow or comparable tools.
  • Strong interest in using AI tools and workflow automation as the primary approach to completing work.
  • Preferred: practical experience with event-sourced or append-only log systems, change data capture, or Kafka or Kinesis.
  • Preferred: working knowledge of cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake, including access control, performance tuning, and cost management.
  • Preferred: experience deploying and operating machine learning models in production.
  • Preferred: experience with data lakehouse architectures and open table formats such as Apache Iceberg or Delta Lake.
  • Preferred: experience developing AI-focused data access infrastructure, including MCP, AI data governance, and evaluation of AI-generated query results.
  • Preferred: experience in fintech, financial services, or another regulated or compliance-focused industry.
