Senior Software Development Engineer (Hybrid, Austin)

Lead AI-assisted software delivery across JiffyShirts.com’s e-commerce platform. Architect systems, review agent-produced code, and take production services from implementation through reliable operation.

Description

  • Coordinate Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or comparable AI coding agents across 3–6 concurrent workstreams.
  • Convert product goals into clear specifications and plans that coding agents can execute.
  • Guide implementation, scrutinize every code diff, perform QA, merge pull requests, and confirm production health.
  • Architect scalable, dependable systems spanning Rails 8 and Solidus e-commerce, GraphQL APIs, React 19, and Kubernetes infrastructure.
  • Detect fabricated APIs and uphold secure, idiomatic engineering practices.
  • Create and improve internal AI development tools, including skills, rules, prompts, MCP integrations, and evaluation harnesses.
  • Extend the shared .ai/ skills and rules library.
  • Increase meaningful automated coverage with RSpec, Vitest, and Playwright.
  • Track deployments, handle incidents, and take ownership of released services.
  • Work with Product, Design, Ops, and engineering partners to define and deliver features.
  • Contribute to architecture discussions and code reviews.
  • Coach engineers in AI-native development workflows and orchestration techniques.
  • Find opportunities to automate manual QA, operational runbooks, data investigations, and migrations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least five years of professional experience delivering production software systems at scale.
  • Hands-on, required experience using Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or a comparable AI coding agent as a primary development tool.
  • A demonstrated record of delivering features, refactors, or investigations through agent orchestration.
  • Ability to operate multiple agents in parallel while coordinating concurrent workstreams.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals covering object-oriented design, API design, data modeling, distributed-system reliability, and performance.
  • Proficiency in a server-side language such as Ruby, Python, Go, Java, or an equivalent.
  • Proficiency with a modern front-end stack such as React, TypeScript, or an equivalent technology.
  • Experience working with relational databases, including Postgres or MySQL, and SQL.
  • Experience developing or integrating REST or GraphQL APIs.
  • Exceptional code-review ability.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • High integrity, accountability, ownership, and dedication to quality.
  • Comfort working in a fast-moving, ambiguous, highly autonomous environment.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Preferred experience creating or extending AI developer tools such as custom skills, slash commands, MCP servers, sub-agents, evaluation harnesses, or prompt libraries.
  • Preferred experience with Ruby on Rails and Solidus, Spree, or another large-scale e-commerce platform.
  • Preferred familiarity with React 19, TypeScript, GraphQL/Apollo, Tailwind, React Query, XState, or Jotai.
  • Preferred experience with Kubernetes, Istio, KEDA, Flagger, and modern observability platforms.
  • Preferred experience with Playwright, Vitest, and RSpec.
  • Preferred experience mentoring engineers in AI-native workflows.
  • Preferred evidence of improvements attributable to AI adoption.
  • Preferred experience in a rapid agile environment at a high-growth startup or technology company.
