Senior Regional Rail Engineer – Trilon Group (Remote, United States)

Lead railroad engineering projects, client relationships, and regional growth initiatives for Trilon Group. Expand rail engineering capabilities across multiple U.S. regions.

Description

  • Direct regional railroad project leadership and contribute to strategic growth initiatives.
  • Oversee planning, design, coordination, and delivery for tracks, terminals, spurs, mainlines, yards, and sidings.
  • Coordinate railroad, DOT, and municipal agency projects involving at-grade crossings, grade-separated structures, and utility crossings.
  • Provide senior technical guidance on rail design, grading, drainage, and related infrastructure.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, railroad operators, public agencies, and industry partners.
  • Contribute to business development through client engagement, proposals, pursuits, industry organizations, and conferences.
  • Mentor engineers, designers, and junior staff while providing technical direction across offices and project teams.
  • Partner with Project Managers and regional leaders on staffing, resource allocation, and operational effectiveness.
  • Work with federal, state, and local agencies across multiple states to meet regulatory and railroad-standard requirements.
  • Direct QA/QC implementation and compliance throughout project development and delivery.
  • Help establish consistent rail engineering practices, design methods, and project delivery procedures.
  • Travel periodically for client meetings, site visits, regional coordination, and industry events.
  • Handle additional responsibilities as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in rail, transit, railroad infrastructure, transportation, or land development engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Track record leading multidisciplinary rail engineering projects and managing client relationships.
  • Strong knowledge of design standards for track, at-grade railroad crossings, grade-separated structures, and utility crossings.
  • Experience mentoring technical staff and leading engineering teams across multiple projects or offices is preferred.
  • Familiarity with CAD platforms and standard engineering software.
  • Strong business development, communication, leadership, and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with railroad personnel, clients, agencies, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
  • Willingness to travel regionally as needed for project delivery and client engagement.
