Senior Nuclear Licensing Engineer

Develop regulatory documents and review vendor submissions for Duke Energy’s new nuclear generation programs. Work with the NRC and other agencies to address complex licensing issues.

Description

  • Draft regulatory documents and advise on nuclear licensing matters.
  • Review vendor submissions and help resolve regulatory issues.
  • Communicate with the NRC, both verbally and in writing, as part of the licensing team.
  • Prepare submissions for the NRC, DOE, and state environmental and health agencies.
  • Meet with the NRC, DOE, and state or local agencies for regulatory discussions, audits, public meetings, and interactions with NRC project managers and branch chiefs.
  • Create procedures and update existing procedures and processes to meet company policies.
  • Serve on the Emergency Response Organization (ERO).
  • Represent Duke Energy in industry working groups, task forces, and organizations.
  • Plan, organize, estimate, schedule, and track work activities.
  • Analyze processes, recommend improvements and standards, and maintain accurate records.
  • Provide engineering and regulatory guidance to identify, analyze, and resolve complex problems.
  • Stay current with new requirements, technologies, and processes.
  • Coach and mentor degreed and non-degreed engineering professionals.

Requirements

  • Meet the minimum ANSI qualifications specified in Nuclear Operating Fleet Administrative Procedure AD-LS-ALL-0011, Confirmation of Regulatory Guide 1.8 Personnel Qualifications.
  • At least one year of nuclear power plant experience.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, or state registration as a Professional Engineer.
  • A master’s degree in engineering may be accepted in place of a bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • At least six years of engineering experience, or five years with state registration as a Professional Engineer.
  • Be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Be willing and able to report to the assigned Duke Energy facility as required, averaging three full workdays per regular workweek.
  • Live within a reasonable commute of the designated Duke Energy facility, no more than 50 miles one way.
  • Travel 5–15% of the time.
  • Desired: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Desired: Eight years of related work experience.
  • Desired: Technical Nuclear Certification, Senior Reactor Operator qualification, Reactor Operator qualification, and/or Professional Engineer registration.
  • Desired: MBA or master’s degree.
