Description

  • Provide expert geospatial guidance for evidence-based transport decisions
  • Lead geospatial enhancement and mapping projects from initial scoping to completion
  • Partner with multidisciplinary teams to understand needs and identify geospatial opportunities
  • Increase effective use of spatial information and systems across NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi
  • Perform spatial analysis and produce maps
  • Balance stakeholder requirements, priorities, dependencies, risks, timelines, costs, and quality
  • Create reusable geospatial solutions
  • Ensure geospatial data and products meet quality standards
  • Explain technical information clearly to diverse audiences
  • Promote consistent geospatial practices throughout the organisation
  • Coach Geospatial Analysts and share specialist knowledge
  • Advocate for geospatial capability while developing relationships across the organisation, government, vendors, and industry

Requirements

  • Proven expertise in geospatial analysis, mapping, visualisation, and spatial data management
  • Ability to turn complex information into clear insights that support decisions
  • Ability to convert business needs into practical geospatial products, services, or process improvements
  • Strong capabilities in spatial data management and analysis
  • Thorough understanding of the geospatial industry
  • Experience managing geospatial data workflows, including FME
  • Experience with Esri tools such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, and ArcGIS Online
  • Ability to define and lead geospatial initiatives through delivery
  • Ability to balance stakeholder requirements, priorities, dependencies, risks, timelines, costs, and quality
  • Strong relationship-management skills across multidisciplinary teams and with stakeholders, technical specialists, partners, and vendors
  • Sound judgement and effective problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently, handle ambiguity, manage competing priorities, and recognise when escalation is needed
  • Ability to review and quality-assure geospatial data, analysis, and products
  • Ability to coach and support colleagues through practical guidance, peer review, knowledge sharing, and constructive feedback
  • Experience with geospatial automation, ETL workflows, field data collection applications, enterprise reporting tools, or related data technologies is useful
  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to build knowledge of, Te Ao Māori, tikanga, te reo Māori, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi in a public-sector context
  • Legal entitlement to live and work in New Zealand
