Senior Front-End Developer, Design Systems and AEM

Build accessible Design System components and Adobe Experience Manager solutions for Navy Federal Credit Union. Develop scalable front-end experiences for marketing websites and intranets.

Description

  • Deliver software that meets business, technical, accessibility, and user experience needs, from design through deployment.
  • Create and maintain reusable Design System components, tokens, styles, libraries, documentation, and developer tools.
  • Build responsive front ends with semantic HTML, CSS/Sass, JavaScript, TypeScript, and modern component frameworks.
  • Turn Figma designs, interaction patterns, component states, and design tokens into accessible, production-ready interfaces.
  • Develop and support Java and Adobe Experience Manager components, templates, integrations, content capabilities, and platform features.
  • Apply shared Design System assets to AEM marketing websites and intranets.
  • Investigate technical issues and deliver maintainable solutions.
  • Create and run unit, integration, functional, accessibility, visual regression, and cross-browser tests.
  • Help Angular and native iOS and Android teams adopt Design System foundations, tokens, patterns, and guidance.
  • Contribute to code reviews, technical design, release checks, production support, and documentation.
  • Take part in sprint planning, backlog refinement, standups, demos, retrospectives, and cross-functional delivery.
  • Improve application and shared asset performance, scalability, accessibility, security, and maintainability.
  • Work with product managers, designers, accessibility specialists, quality engineers, platform teams, developers, stakeholders, and vendors.
  • Check that work follows approved designs, acceptance criteria, and quality standards.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level colleagues and share knowledge.
  • Keep up with new technologies, industry practices, and development trends.
  • Handle other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Preferred: a bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field; equivalent work experience may also qualify.
  • Five to seven years of software development experience, including modern web applications, reusable components, or shared UI libraries.
  • Thorough understanding of the business area, digital delivery goals, user experience needs, and platform specialization.
  • Advanced front-end skills with semantic HTML, CSS/Sass, JavaScript, and modern component models such as React, Angular, Vue, or Web Components.
  • Substantial experience developing reusable Design System components, design tokens, responsive patterns, documentation, and supported releases.
  • Substantial Java and Adobe Experience Manager development experience, including AEM Sites or AEM as a Cloud Service, HTL, Sling Models, OSGi, JCR, client libraries, Maven, and REST integrations.
  • Advanced knowledge of the software development lifecycle, agile delivery, version control, code reviews, package management, semantic versioning, and CI/CD workflows.
  • Experience delivering work in sprints as part of a cross-functional agile team.
  • Experience creating automated tests and checking accessibility, usability, reliability, and quality.
  • Working knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA, Section 508, ARIA, keyboard interaction, and accessible component development.
  • Experience helping teams adopt a Design System through implementation guidance, troubleshooting, migration planning, documentation, and developer enablement.
  • Working knowledge of Angular integration and native mobile Design System concepts for iOS and Android.
  • Familiarity with Jest, Testing Library, Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, JUnit, BrowserStack, Percy, axe, Lighthouse, or similar tools.
  • Advanced ability to analyze complex technical problems, organize work, and design technical solutions.
  • Strong organizational, planning, time management, verbal communication, and writing skills.
  • Experience working with product managers, designers, developers, accessibility specialists, quality engineers, stakeholders, management, and vendors.
  • Familiarity with secure coding, web performance, caching, observability, troubleshooting, production support, headless or hybrid CMS patterns, Adobe Edge Delivery Services, Adobe Experience Cloud integrations, or AI-assisted development practices.
  • A master’s degree in computer science or engineering, or an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience, is desired.
