Senior Fire Protection Engineer, Data Centers

Lead fire protection design for Arcadis data center and mission-critical projects, from site assessments through construction administration. Coordinate BIM-based solutions and advise clients on reliable, high-availability systems.

Description

  • Lead fire protection design for data centers and other mission-critical facilities.
  • Prepare construction-ready drawings, specifications, and coordinated BIM models.
  • Design systems to meet reliability, redundancy, and uptime needs.
  • Provide technical direction and mentor junior engineers and designers.
  • Coordinate fire protection systems with mechanical, electrical, and architectural teams.
  • Contribute to business development with proposals, estimates, schedules, and client discussions.
  • Conduct site assessments, field investigations, and data center fire protection studies.
  • Model and support designs using Revit, BIM platforms, AutoCAD, Navisworks, HydraCAD, Sprink Cad FDT, and Aspire.
  • Build client relationships and advise on fire protection strategies.
  • Guide projects from early pursuit and proposals through detailed design and construction administration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in fire protection engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • U.S. Professional Engineer (PE) license in fire protection.
  • Experience designing fire protection systems for data centers, mission-critical facilities, or high-tech industrial settings.
  • Strong knowledge of clean-agent systems, including FK-5-12, Sapphire, Inergen, and Aragonite.
  • Knowledge of wet, pre-action, deluge, and dry-pipe systems.
  • Fire alarm design experience, including VESDA-type and beam detection.
  • Understanding of redundancy and cost-effective design.
  • In-depth knowledge of NFPA 13, 20, 22, 24, 72, 75, and 76; IFC; IBC; and FM Global guidelines.
  • Experience preparing Issued for Construction (IFC) design packages.
  • Familiarity with high-availability facility needs and MEP coordination for critical loads.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to present technical solutions to clients and colleagues.
  • Ability to collaborate in a hybrid workplace using Microsoft Teams, Slack, and Zoom.
  • Ability to travel to project sites for approximately one week per month.
