Senior Engineering Applications Engineer - Houston Hybrid

Senior engineer responsible for developing, supporting, and improving ABS engineering applications for marine and offshore classification. The role combines engineering analysis, software development, digitalization, cross-functional coordination, and client support.

Description

  • Identify opportunities and recommend improvements for Engineering Applications
  • Lead or contribute to Engineering Applications development and support teams
  • Complete assigned work on schedule and within budget
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Technology, IT, and other departments on application planning, design, development, testing, and maintenance
  • Build effective relationships with customers and colleagues while supporting Engineering Application users
  • Develop assigned Engineering Applications projects
  • Advise on technology, engineering, Rules, and Regulations
  • Gather user feedback and understand client needs
  • Monitor industry trends and technological developments
  • Recommend features, technologies, and solutions for continuous improvement
  • Meet ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management System requirements
  • Perform designated engineering analyses
  • Report to a Director, Manager, Staff Consultant, Principal Engineer, or project leader as assigned
  • Coordinate with relevant organizational teams on assigned work and related matters

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in engineering or computer science, or a professional or chartered engineering license
  • At least five years of relevant engineering or software development experience
  • Relevant experience in a shipyard, marine or offshore design or consulting office, shipping or oil company, CAD or engineering software company, software development or consulting company, university, or classification society
  • English language proficiency
  • Knowledge of engineering analysis, including structural analysis, finite element methods, and structural or machinery Rule-compliance assessment
  • Knowledge of applicable Class Rules and regulations for marine and offshore structures or machinery, including the effects of Rule applications and interpretations
  • Understanding of software development and IT technologies
  • Ability to maintain constructive relationships with clients and colleagues
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to plan short- and long-term work schedules efficiently and effectively
  • Interest in data, digital, systems, software, analytics, and development
  • Ability to build working knowledge of ABS Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, related instructions, and the ABS Employee Safety Policy
