Senior Contract Manager, APAC – Sydney

Lead tendering, contract negotiations, and commercial governance for Lightsource bp’s large-scale solar, wind, and energy storage projects across APAC. Manage risk, cost, schedule, quality, and contract awards through Notice to Proceed.

Description

  • Lead APAC tendering and contract management for large-scale solar, wind, and storage projects from early development through Notice to Proceed.
  • Prepare, issue, negotiate, and award contracts while managing cost, risk, schedule, and quality.
  • Manage pre-tender activities, including drafting and issuing RFQs and ITTs.
  • Onboard contractors and coordinate delivery with Development and Engineering teams.
  • Work with Development, Technical and Engineering, Legal, HSE, Grid and Networks, and Finance stakeholders.
  • Define requirements, resolve technical and commercial queries, and align bid evaluation criteria.
  • Lead negotiations with preferred bidders and develop contract terms and conditions.
  • Recommend contract awards based on risk allocation, cost analysis, and value comparisons.
  • Prepare approval papers and obtain required governance sign-offs.
  • Control tender schedules, communications, and decision logs.
  • Chair weekly and monthly meetings and report progress to colleagues and project teams.
  • Help prevent and resolve claims through contractual interpretation, change management, claims handling, and variations.
  • Represent Lightsource bp at supplier and industry events.
  • Improve APAC tendering templates, processes, and playbooks.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of experience in renewable energy and/or construction, preferably with EPC contractors or comparable developers or owners.
  • Strong knowledge of APAC markets, including commercial models, procurement practices, and regional constraints.
  • Project management experience on renewable energy projects connected to medium- and high-voltage networks.
  • Demonstrated success in commercial negotiations, contract closeout, and claims and variation management.
  • Track record of delivering projects and managing stakeholders across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong commercial negotiation and contract drafting or review capabilities, including EPC, ICP, BoP, or comparable contract structures.
  • Ability to identify, assess, and mitigate risk while confidently advising senior stakeholders.
  • Clear, action-focused written and verbal communication, including confident meeting facilitation.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tenders against tight deadlines.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with EPCs, ICPs, and network service providers at design and construction stages.
  • Strong problem-solving ability, adaptability, and resilience in fast-moving project environments.
  • Proficiency with standard project management systems and construction industry procedures.
  • Mandarin language skills are advantageous but not required.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Law, Commerce, Quantity Surveying, or a related field is preferred; equivalent practical contracts or tendering experience will also be considered.
  • Availability for regional APAC travel and occasional site visits may be required.
