Remote Contracts Manager – The Nature Conservancy

Lead complex contracting, compliance, risk management, and staff development for The Nature Conservancy’s Northeast Division. Support conservation operations through effective agreement management, cross-functional partnership, and process improvement.

Description

  • Lead contracting activities for The Nature Conservancy’s Northeast Division
  • Oversee coordinated contract services and provide leadership across the Division
  • Manage complex agreements while supporting contract administration, compliance, stakeholders, assigned Business Units, and Division priorities
  • Advise on agreement structures, contracting strategies, compliance obligations, and organizational policies
  • Promote consistent practices, coordinate workloads and priorities, strengthen staff capabilities, and drive process improvements
  • Develop, review, execute, monitor, and close agreements in line with organizational policies, Delegation of Authority requirements, and risk management practices
  • Act as the subject matter expert and escalation resource for complex contracting matters
  • Assess contractual, financial, compliance, operational, and reputational risks and recommend mitigation approaches
  • Collaborate with Legal, Finance, Grants, Operations, program staff, and other stakeholders to resolve contract issues
  • Supervise, coach, and develop contracts personnel
  • Lead the creation and implementation of contracting processes, tools, training, service standards, and resources
  • Use independent judgment to resolve complex contract matters, prioritize work, allocate resources, and recommend solutions

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field plus four years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination
  • Experience applying government regulations governing grants and contracts
  • TNC Certified Contract Specialist certification, or the ability to obtain it within the required timeframe
  • Experience managing contracts, agreements, procurement activities, grants, or related business operations
  • Experience coordinating multiple agreements while handling competing priorities
  • Experience interpreting and applying organizational policies, procedures, compliance obligations, and approval workflows
  • Experience with contract management, document management, financial, or comparable technology systems
  • Experience supervising, coaching, and developing employees
  • Experience managing complex contracts, subawards, procurement agreements, professional services agreements, or other organizational agreements
  • Experience supporting contracts funded by government, foundation, corporate, or other institutional sources
  • Knowledge of contract lifecycle management, procurement practices, internal controls, compliance monitoring, and risk management
  • Experience designing or improving contracting processes, tools, templates, training, or service standards
  • Experience partnering with Legal, Finance, Grants, Operations, and program teams in a complex or decentralized organization
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, problem-solving, project management, and stakeholder management abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain complex requirements to diverse audiences
  • Multilingual abilities and/or multicultural experience are appreciated
  • Must satisfy The Nature Conservancy’s background screening requirements
