Description

  • Perform advanced structural analysis and design for complex components and building systems
  • Create, review, and assess three-dimensional gravity and lateral analysis models
  • Assess load distribution, forces, reactions, deflections, stability issues, and modeling conditions
  • Develop structural solutions that balance performance, constructability, efficiency, coordination, and project requirements
  • Apply ASCE 7, IBC, AISC, ACI, TMS, SJI, and other relevant codes and standards
  • Prepare, review, and finalize structural calculations and engineering records
  • Interpret construction documents and produce coordinated structural designs
  • Examine architectural and MEP/FP drawings and models for structural effects and coordination conflicts
  • Coordinate structural requirements with architects, consultants, and other engineering disciplines
  • Work with BIM and modeling teams on complex detailing, models, and documentation
  • Verify structural drawings and models against calculations, design intent, project requirements, and Apex standards
  • Review shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and other construction-phase materials
  • Attend external project meetings and technical coordination sessions
  • Explain technical concepts, structural requirements, engineering concerns, and design decisions
  • Identify technical, coordination, constructability, and information gaps and propose solutions
  • Assist Project Managers and Project Executives with alternatives, constructability reviews, technical risks, and complex engineering matters
  • Guide and mentor Project Engineer I and II team members on technical work
  • Review work from less-experienced engineers and provide constructive technical input
  • Share knowledge, lessons learned, and practices that strengthen engineering quality
  • Participate in Apex Technical Advisory Groups
  • Help improve engineering standards, design tools, calculation methods, software practices, and technical resources
  • Follow Apex engineering standards, QA/QC procedures, documentation rules, and delivery processes
  • Build continuing expertise in structural systems, codes, analysis methods, constructability, fabrication, erection, and emerging technologies
  • Organize priorities, meet deadlines, raise concerns promptly, and deliver accurate engineering work

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, structural, or architectural engineering from an accredited university
  • Master’s degree in structural engineering or a related engineering field is preferred
  • Typically four or more years of relevant structural engineering experience with increasing technical responsibility
  • PE and/or SE licensure is required where applicable to the role and jurisdiction
  • Experience designing and analyzing building systems using steel, concrete, masonry, and other structural materials
  • Strong knowledge of structural loads, load paths, gravity and lateral systems, and component interaction
  • Proficiency with ASCE 7, applicable building codes, and material design standards
  • Proficiency with Apex’s designated structural analysis and design software
  • Ability to create, review, and assess three-dimensional structural analysis models
  • Ability to independently interpret analysis results and recognize unusual structural behavior
  • Proficiency reading and interpreting architectural and structural construction documents
  • Working knowledge of MEP/FP and other discipline drawings
  • Ability to produce clear, organized, and comprehensive calculations and engineering documentation
  • Ability to compare structural alternatives and select practical solutions
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate technical requirements with project stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, sound engineering judgment, and attention to detail
  • Ability to provide technical direction, mentorship, and constructive feedback
  • Ability to check engineering work for technical accuracy and completeness
  • Ability to take ownership of assigned technical responsibilities
