Principal Process Engineer in Melbourne (Hybrid) at Wood

Lead oil and gas process engineering work at Wood, covering concept design, simulations, safeguarding, and technical team leadership. This full-time hybrid role is based in Melbourne.

Description

  • Lead a process engineering team while serving as a subject matter expert.
  • Manage small teams delivering concept-level process design work.
  • Present process study outcomes to clients and assess options to support agreement on a preferred solution.
  • Check and approve deliverables produced by the Process team.
  • Conduct interdisciplinary reviews of deliverables from other engineering disciplines.
  • Direct development of design, operating, and maintenance philosophies.
  • Lead process engineering concept selection studies.
  • Prepare HYSYS or UniSim steady-state simulations and heat and material balances.
  • Create concept-level block diagrams, PFDs, and preliminary P&IDs.
  • Develop preliminary relief system designs.
  • Support process safeguarding, design reviews, risk reviews, HAZOP, and HAZID workshops.
  • Provide materials input on corrosion and erosion rates and materials of construction.
  • Estimate manhours for FEED and Detailed Design phases.

Requirements

  • At least 15 years of postgraduate experience, including 10 years designing oil and gas production facilities and 3 years in a lead or focal point role.
  • Demonstrated success leading small process engineering teams to deliver concept-level design work on schedule and within budget.
  • Working knowledge of relevant industry codes, standards, and processes.
  • Relevant engineering degree and eligibility for full membership of the Institution of Chemical Engineers.
  • Professional Engineer registration in Victoria is preferred but not required.
  • Full Australian work rights are required.
  • Experience with conceptual design deliverables for onshore wellheads, WHCPs, well start-up and hydrate management systems, flow assurance, production integration, and FEED/Detailed Design manhour estimation.
  • Knowledge of plant and well pad layout and construction considerations.
  • Knowledge of modern Process Design Quality Management systems.
  • Knowledge of process safeguarding practices for oil and gas production facilities.
  • Experience with process design reviews, risk reviews, HAZOP, and HAZID technical safety workshops.
  • Experience estimating corrosion and erosion rates and recommending materials of construction.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Ability to build and maintain customer relationships.
  • Professional presentation when working with customers.
  • Experience using HYSYS or UniSim for steady-state simulations.
