Oracle Database Administrator (Hybrid, UK)

Join Indra Group in supporting the transition of Transport for London’s critical ticketing databases. Administer, tune and stabilise mission-critical Oracle services during mobilisation and early-life support.

Description

  • Support mobilisation, knowledge transfer, shadowing, reverse shadowing and readiness activities.
  • Document and validate Oracle Database operational knowledge, dependencies and evidence before ownership transfer.
  • Administer, maintain and support Oracle databases across production, testing and development environments.
  • Handle performance tuning, troubleshooting, configuration, user administration, maintenance and reporting-system support.
  • Oversee backup activities and support disaster recovery planning and testing, business continuity controls, database health monitoring and rapid service restoration.
  • Partner with application and development teams on databases, stored procedures, database structures and related processes.
  • Help maintain dependable integrations and automated data flows between business systems.
  • Review and develop SOPs, runbooks and knowledge-base articles.
  • Find opportunities to automate and optimise database operations.
  • Follow ITIL-aligned Incident, Problem, Change and Configuration Management practices.
  • Work with customer stakeholders, incumbent supplier SMEs, service management, infrastructure, application support, security and programme teams.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience working as an Oracle Database Administrator in complex environments.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical databases through performance tuning, fault diagnosis, service restoration and operational maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of PL/SQL, stored procedures, database structures, security controls and user administration.
  • Experience managing database backup and recovery, including RMAN, disaster recovery and business continuity processes.
  • Experience with database monitoring and operational support.
  • Background in IT support or service operations, preferably in a high-pressure or 24/7 environment.
  • Ability to produce clear technical and operational documentation and support knowledge transfer and service transition.
  • Knowledge of MS SQL Server, or willingness to develop skills in SQL Server and other relevant technologies.
  • Solid understanding of IT Service Management principles.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Natural Sciences or a related field.
  • Relevant Oracle Database administration experience, training or certification.
  • Experience with Oracle RAC and Data Guard or comparable database resilience technologies is desirable.
  • Experience with Oracle multitenant architecture, database migrations and upgrades is desirable.
  • Experience with Oracle patching is desirable.
  • Knowledge of database observability, automation, scripting and standardisation is desirable.
  • Experience with CMDB, asset management, dependency mapping or service impact analysis is desirable.
  • Experience with cloud or hybrid database environments, particularly Microsoft Azure, is desirable.
  • Experience in transport, public sector, payments, ticketing, regulated or other high-availability and mission-critical environments is desirable.
