Junior Part-Time Full-Stack AI Engineer at Volanno (U.S. Remote)

Description

  • Build and enhance DataTalk across its React frontend, Python/FastAPI backend, PostgreSQL database, and AI functionality
  • Refine natural-language query processing, retrieval performance, and the accuracy of generated answers and visualizations
  • Support customer onboarding, data connector integrations, and data ingestion processes
  • Contribute to security enhancements covering authentication, permissions, customer data separation, and query protection
  • Investigate defects, optimize application performance, and maintain automated tests and AI evaluation processes
  • Work with the lead developer and project manager to define tasks, review code, document updates, and deliver completed work
  • Address pilot customer issues and use their feedback to guide product enhancements

Requirements

  • 1–2 years of professional experience developing software
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
  • Working knowledge of Python, JavaScript or TypeScript, and SQL
  • Experience creating React interfaces with HTML/CSS and integrating APIs
  • Experience developing or maintaining REST APIs with FastAPI or a similar framework
  • Practical experience integrating an LLM API or developing an AI-enabled application
  • Familiarity with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, along with basic data cleaning and transformation
  • Familiarity with Git, debugging, automated testing, and secure development practices
  • Ability to complete defined development work with guidance from the lead developer
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, careful attention to detail, and openness to learning new technologies
  • Clear communication and dependable follow-through during an agreed part-time schedule
  • U.S. work authorization
  • Ability to satisfy applicable federal client background investigation and Public Trust requirements when assigned
  • Preferred: Familiarity with AWS, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, logging, or monitoring
  • Preferred: Exposure to retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, vector databases, or natural-language-to-SQL systems
  • Preferred: Experience with pandas, data pipelines, or visualization libraries such as Plotly or Recharts
  • Preferred: Familiarity with multi-tenant systems, authentication, or role-based access control
  • Preferred: Experience evaluating AI outputs for accuracy and consistency
  • Preferred: Interest in analytics, government work, or transportation and aviation data

Benefits

  • Part-time schedule of up to approximately 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday
