Geospatial Developer - Remote in Virginia

Develop geospatial applications, data pipelines, and dashboards for Niyam IT’s federal NEXRAD weather-radar and spectrum relocation program. This fully remote position supports mission-critical government analysis.

Description

  • Design and develop software components for a database-first geospatial architecture
  • Create data models, automated ingestion pipelines, and geospatial services for the full NEXRAD network
  • Build and maintain Esri-based and open-source geospatial web applications and dashboards
  • Visualize incumbents, interference indicators, 300 km analysis areas, obstruction environments, and site viability status
  • Develop automated geospatial export and reporting workflows for standardized maps and reports at scale
  • Implement propagation, line-of-sight, and beam-blockage analysis routines with spectrum engineering and GIS teams
  • Integrate FCC, FAA, USGS 3DEP, imagery, terrain, clutter, and government-furnished datasets through documented pipelines
  • Ingest field survey data, imagery, and frequency measurements into the master database and dashboard
  • Improve the performance, reliability, and maintainability of geospatial applications and data services
  • Support deployments in Esri and cloud environments, including AWS
  • Maintain compliance with Controlled Unclassified Information requirements for software, data, and hosting
  • Support a federal client operating a nationwide NEXRAD weather-radar network and spectrum relocation analysis program

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, GIS, Geospatial Science, or a related field; equivalent experience may substitute
  • At least four years of software development experience, including geospatial application development or geospatial data engineering
  • Proficiency in Python and geospatial libraries or APIs such as ArcGIS API for Python, GeoPandas, GDAL/OGR, or Shapely
  • Experience building web mapping applications with Esri tools such as ArcGIS API for JavaScript or Experience Builder, and/or open-source tools such as Leaflet, OpenLayers, or MapLibre
  • Experience with spatial databases such as PostGIS and automated ETL or data pipelines
  • Familiarity with Git version control and modern software development and deployment practices
  • Working knowledge of Controlled Unclassified Information handling requirements
  • Ability to travel occasionally, with minimal travel, for program activities
  • Preferred: experience deploying geospatial applications in cloud environments, particularly AWS
  • Preferred: familiarity with radar, RF, spectrum, or telecommunications data and analysis
  • Preferred: familiarity with open RF standards such as SigMF or scientific data formats
  • Preferred: previous support for a federal agency’s mission-critical infrastructure or geospatial programs
  • Preferred: experience automating report and map production from a centralized geospatial database
  • Preferred: experience administering ArcGIS Enterprise or configuring geospatial servers and services
