Enterprise Architect (Hybrid)

Lead cloud-first enterprise architecture for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas in a hybrid role. Set architecture direction across security, data, integration, modernization, and technology roadmaps.

Description

  • Establish and maintain enterprise architecture principles, reference designs, and standards across application, data, integration, security, and cloud domains.
  • Create target-state architectures and multi-year roadmaps aligned with business capabilities, risk tolerance, and investment priorities.
  • Direct architecture governance through reviews, exception management, and documented technology decisions.
  • Verify that solutions meet compliance requirements, incorporate security by design, and are ready for operation.
  • Design end-to-end architectures for initiatives, covering applications, integrations, data flows, identity, and security controls.
  • Advance application modernization and platform adoption through API-first, event-driven, and container-based approaches.
  • Define cloud guardrails for landing zones, network design, identity, logging, monitoring, and cost management.
  • Set data architecture direction that supports analytics and artificial intelligence initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Information Security and Compliance on threat modeling, least privilege, encryption and key management, and regulatory obligations.
  • Assess technologies and vendors, recommending adoption, consolidation, or retirement where appropriate.
  • Coach architects and engineering teams in architecture practices and delivery.
  • Champion CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, automated testing, observability, and ongoing technical-debt reduction.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related technical discipline is preferred.
  • At least eight years of progressively responsible information technology experience is required.
  • At least five years in an architecture role involving enterprise-system design, development, and support is required.
  • Ability to define and govern architecture across application, data, security, integration, and cloud domains.
  • Strong communication skills for architecture diagrams, models, and decision records.
  • Experience creating target-state architectures and strategic roadmaps.
  • Broad cloud architecture expertise; Azure experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of security architecture, including IAM, threat modeling, encryption and key management, secure SDLC, and HIPAA-related privacy and regulatory compliance.
  • Expertise in application and integration architecture, including API-first design, event-driven systems, and messaging.
  • Experience modernizing legacy applications and systems.
  • Knowledge of data architecture and governance, including data domains, master and reference data, metadata, lineage, retention, and quality.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, automated testing, and operational-readiness practices.
  • Proven ability to influence without formal authority, mentor teams, and facilitate cross-functional decisions.
  • Familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks and modeling methods such as TOGAF, Zachman, or ArchiMate.
  • Certifications in enterprise, cloud, security, or data architecture are preferred.
  • Availability to attend some meetings, training sessions, and demonstrations in person.
  • The role may require extended periods of computer-based work.
