Embedded Software Engineer – Plymouth, MN (Hybrid)

Build and maintain C/C++ embedded software for Vantive’s PrisMax critical-care dialysis platform. Support testing, verification, cybersecurity, and compliant medical-device development.

Description

  • Create, implement, and maintain embedded software features for the PrisMax platform.
  • Contribute across the software lifecycle, from requirements and implementation through integration, verification, release, and sustaining engineering.
  • Take part in software architecture discussions, design reviews, and code reviews.
  • Write unit tests and help advance automated testing efforts.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve software defects through structured root cause analysis.
  • Partner with systems engineers to clarify product requirements and preserve traceability across design, implementation, and testing.
  • Contribute to risk management, including hazard analysis and software mitigation activities.
  • Support software verification and validation in accordance with medical-device regulations and standards.
  • Collaborate with electrical and systems engineers to diagnose hardware and software integration problems.
  • Help improve cybersecurity, reliability, and system performance.
  • Maintain design history file documentation and other engineering deliverables within a regulated development process.
  • Participate in Agile planning, estimation, and sprint delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, software engineering, electrical engineering, or a related technical field.
  • At least 0–2 years of engineering experience, including internships, co-ops, or academic projects.
  • Working proficiency in C++ and/or C.
  • Knowledge of embedded software fundamentals, including real-time systems, microcontrollers, processors, hardware interfaces, debugging, and communication protocols.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to contribute effectively within a collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • Preferred: Experience developing with RTOS or embedded Linux.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with ARM processors and embedded development tools.
  • Preferred: Exposure to SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, USB, or Ethernet.
  • Preferred: Experience using Git and modern software development practices.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of Python or scripting for test automation.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with automated testing frameworks and CI/CD concepts.
  • Preferred: Understanding of cybersecurity principles for connected medical devices.
  • Preferred: Experience in a regulated field such as medical devices, aerospace, automotive, or industrial controls.
