Senior COBOL and Java Modernization Engineer

Descriere
- Analyze COBOL programs and JCL job streams to understand functional flows, dependencies, datasets, return codes, and existing business logic
- Design and implement target solutions with Java, Spring Boot, and Spring Batch
- Define jobs, steps, readers, writers, chunk processing, restart procedures, and fault-tolerance mechanisms
- Create and maintain functional and technical specifications using Spec-Driven Development approaches
- Build and optimize agents, prompts, skills, and automations with AI tools for assisted software development
- Validate functional equivalence between legacy applications and new implementations
- Design testing strategies covering Golden Master testing, regression testing, and automated validation
- Analyze quality, productivity, and efficiency metrics for the modernization pipeline
- Identify continuous-improvement opportunities across the processes, tools, and frameworks in use
- Work closely with specialists in mainframe environments and enterprise architecture
Cerințe
- More than five years of professional Java development experience
- Professional English proficiency for documentation and international collaboration
- Strong production experience with Java, Spring Core, Spring Boot, Spring Data, and Spring Batch
- Experience developing high-volume batch applications and critical processing workflows
- Ability to analyze and understand existing COBOL and JCL code
- Knowledge of fixed-length files, embedded SQL, batch processing, error and return-code handling, reprocessing, and failure recovery
- Experience with regression testing, Golden Master testing, test-case design, Mutation Testing, and code coverage
- Experience applying AI to software development, including prompt engineering, development agents, LLM output evaluation, assisted code generation, and hallucination and quality control
- Regular use of Git, Bash, Python, and Linux or terminal environments
- Previous experience in banking and mainframe environments is desirable
- Knowledge of z/OS, DB2, CICS, IMS, and Control-M is desirable
- Previous participation in COBOL-to-Java migration projects is desirable
- Knowledge of corporate batch frameworks used in the financial sector is desirable
- Experience building advanced agent pipelines and automations for software development is desirable
- Knowledge of executable-specification methodologies or Spec-Driven Development is desirable
- Experience analyzing costs, token consumption, and quality metrics in AI-based solutions is desirable
