Senior Software Engineer, Unsecured Installments
Lead frontend architecture and full-stack work for borrower experiences on Upstart’s AI-powered lending marketplace. Build with React and TypeScript, guide major engineering initiatives, and mentor fellow engineers.

- Lead complex frontend and full-stack projects with React and TypeScript, from planning and launch through ongoing maintenance.
- Guide frontend architecture and establish patterns for full-stack development.
- Manage a three- to six-month roadmap and resolve broader issues that hinder team effectiveness.
- Work with product, design, and backend teams to deliver scalable, high-quality borrower experiences.
- Strengthen component and API design, state management, testing, observability, and operational practices.
- Turn unclear problems into testable plans, using data to make decisions about scope, performance, and user experience.
- Support engineers’ growth through code and design reviews and technical guidance.
- Help apply AI in development workflows and product features.

- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least four years of professional software engineering experience.
- Advanced skill building complex web applications with React and TypeScript.
- Experience with component architecture, state management, performance optimization, and REST or GraphQL APIs.
- Full-stack experience designing and building backend services and APIs with Python, Java, Kotlin, Ruby, or Node.js.
- Demonstrated ability to independently lead large, business-critical frontend or full-stack projects in production.
- Ability to work effectively in ambiguous environments.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Preferred: frontend or full-stack technical leadership experience.
- Preferred: experience with large-scale consumer products, fintech, lending or payments, experimentation or A/B testing, modern frontend tools and test frameworks, CI/CD, or generative AI.
