Welding Engineering Manager

Lead welding engineering research, modeling, and materials testing for HII’s U.S. Navy shipbuilding operations. Support material performance, quality, and safety across naval vessel applications.

Description

  • Investigate the structural and chemical properties of natural and manufactured materials
  • Conduct laboratory experiments and computer-based modeling
  • Develop methods to strengthen, combine, or create materials with specified properties
  • Evaluate materials against requirements for mechanical strength, strength-to-weight ratio, ductility, magnetic and electrical performance, and resistance to abrasion, corrosion, and temperature extremes
  • Select materials that can perform reliably in varied operating environments
  • Verify that products meet applicable quality and safety standards

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering school, plus six years of progressive experience in research, engineering, and design, or an equivalent combination
  • U.S. citizenship is required
  • Final security clearance must be obtained before starting
  • A bachelor’s degree in welding engineering is preferred
  • At least six years of shipbuilding experience is preferred
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
