Water Reclamation Facility Shop Supervisor

Lead maintenance, fabrication, safety, and budget oversight for Jefferson County’s sanitary sewer system. Coordinate pump station and water reclamation facility equipment operations.

Description

  • Assign and review pump station maintenance work performed by staff.
  • Manage the computerized maintenance system to ensure maintenance work is completed and properly recorded.
  • Develop and provide safety training.
  • Track shop inventory and budget.
  • Coordinate maintenance with the Sewer Maintenance Superintendent and Water Reclamation Facility Maintenance Manager to limit disruption to daily operations.
  • Monitor departmental spending and recommend budget allocations.
  • Maintain inventory levels for operational supplies and equipment.
  • Oversee and perform machinery part fabrication using lathes, milling machines, and welding equipment.
  • Direct daily, general, and preventive maintenance of Water Reclamation Facility equipment.
  • Prepare reports and correspondence documenting departmental work and communicating with regulatory agencies.
  • Supervise staff by assigning and distributing work, directing duties, tracking progress, and providing feedback or training.

Requirements

  • Hold a valid driver's license.
  • Have heavy industrial mechanical experience repairing and maintaining equipment such as pumps, blowers, motors, gearboxes, and engines.
  • Have experience operating industrial machine shop equipment, including lathes, drill presses, milling machines, cut-off saws, hydraulic presses, grinders, and cutting and welding equipment, to fabricate or repair machine parts.
  • Have experience reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and specification manuals.
  • Have experience using email, word processing and spreadsheet software, and work order tracking systems.
  • Have experience following and documenting safety policies and procedures in an industrial setting.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems for completing work orders is desirable.
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical problems in pump station control panels and level control systems is desirable.
  • Experience supervising or leading a team in a heavy industrial or mechanical setting is desirable.
  • Be able to occasionally lift objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Be able to work around biological or chemical hazards, airborne contaminants, and potentially hazardous equipment and machinery.
