Strategic Communications Representative (AFWERX) – Dayton, Ohio

Develop integrated communications, messaging, and stakeholder engagement strategies supporting AFWERX programs at HII’s Mission Technologies division. This full-time onsite role focuses on national-defense communications and government review processes.

Description

  • Create strategic communication plans aligned with AFWERX objectives through research, audience analysis, message development, and channel planning.
  • Prepare communication plans and related deliverables for Government review and approval.
  • Execute integrated communication strategies across traditional and social media, websites, presentations, internal communications, and digital platforms.
  • Develop messaging and content for AFWERX strategy, brand initiatives, programs, and leadership priorities.
  • Act as the Strategic Communications contact for assigned divisions, programs, or organizations.
  • Create internal communications covering initiatives, priorities, accomplishments, and program performance.
  • Apply branding standards and OPSEC requirements to all communications.
  • Develop and sustain relationships with government agencies, industry partners, NGOs, and ecosystem stakeholders.
  • Find communication opportunities spanning multiple functions and organizations.
  • Provide support to writers, designers, and multimedia producers.
  • Adapt communication materials to the needs of specific target audiences.
  • Measure communication performance through analytics, stakeholder feedback, and defined outcomes, then recommend improvements.
  • Monitor developments in communication trends, platforms, technologies, and professional practices.
  • Attend meetings to collect information and provide communications guidance.
  • Coordinate multiple communications projects and deadlines.
  • Travel when needed for stakeholder engagement, partnerships, events, and outreach.
  • Complete other assigned responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Six years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree in a related field; four years with a master’s degree in a related field; or a high school diploma or equivalent with 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, business, or a related field.
  • At least six years of experience in strategic communications, program management, public relations, marketing, stakeholder engagement, or a related area.
  • Strong strategic planning and project management capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, networking, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience creating integrated communication plans, campaigns, messaging strategies, and communication materials.
  • Ability to carry organizational narratives across multiple communication channels.
  • Proficiency in analytics, reporting, evaluation methods, and incorporating stakeholder feedback.
  • Ability to turn complex organizational or technical information into clear messaging for specific audiences.
  • Strong critical-thinking, organization, time-management, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in distributed environments.
  • Proficiency with digital communication tools, including Google Workspace.
  • Ability to adjust to shifting priorities and tight deadlines in fast-paced environments.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
  • Secret security clearance.
  • Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree; experience supporting the Department of Defense, U.S. Air Force, government agencies, military organizations, or contractors; communications experience in innovation, technology, acquisition, or national-defense programs; knowledge of OPSEC considerations; and experience advising senior leaders.
