- Lead mobile engineering for Slack experiences used by millions of people each day
- Drive complex, ambiguous initiatives from technical discovery through launch and ongoing improvement
- Prototype major mobile features to define user experiences for Slack’s highest-priority opportunities
- Work with Product and Design to balance user needs, technical limitations, and maintainable solutions
- Shape engineering direction through technical leadership, product reviews, and mentorship
- Establish and promote mobile development and operational excellence practices across engineering
- Mentor senior engineers and support the wider mobile engineering community
- Clarify ambiguous challenges, align stakeholders, and turn ideas into prototypes and shipped products
- Partner with Backend and mobile engineering teams on zero-to-one initiatives
Requirements
- A related technical degree is required
- At least eight years of professional software engineering experience
- Substantial experience developing sophisticated, high-quality Android applications at scale
- A record of crossing organizational boundaries to launch initiatives, prototype production paths, and help organizations adapt
- Experience in fast-moving settings such as startups, incubators, or enterprise zero-to-one teams
- Demonstrated leadership of large, ambiguous, cross-organizational technical initiatives with meaningful business impact
- Advanced expertise with Kotlin and modern Android development
- Strong knowledge of Android architecture, application lifecycles, concurrency, networking, and performance optimization
- Ability to influence product and technical strategy and align executive stakeholders with Engineering, Product, Design, and multiple teams
- Strong ownership and execution mindset, with the judgment to prioritize high-impact work and pursue continuous improvement
- Preferred: Experience with Jetpack Compose and contemporary Android architecture patterns
- Preferred: Experience with Combine Concurrency, including async/await and actors, plus dependency injection frameworks such as Needle or Resolver
- Preferred: Experience leading large-scale products, features, or product transformations from inception
- Preferred: Experience applying research, usability testing, data, and experimentation
- Preferred: Open source or Android community contributions, or external recognition for technical leadership
- Preferred: Experience developing collaboration, productivity, messaging, AI, or enterprise software
- Preferred: Excellent communication skills
- Preferred: Strong product judgment and enthusiasm for exceptional user experiences
